The big egg was our first. We were surprised it was so big. It ended up being a double-yoker. The small egg was our second. That's more like it for 17 week old pullets :)
We got our first egg from one of our chicks. We were so surprised to see it in the nesting box. They are only 17 weeks old (we were told they were 4 weeks when we got them). It's good to know they like the nesting boxes :) I just bought a bag of grower feed yesterday. I guess I should return it...
NH reds were the plan but I was excited to get these chicks because I could pick them up in the next town instead of through the mail, and they should start laying in June :). The coop (when it's done) is large so we'll be able to house a lot of birds. Maybe we'll get some NH reds and I like...
We picked up ten 4 week old ISA browns tonight. We put together a great space for them. They seem to be resting but haven't eaten or had a drink yet. They are in our living room so hopefully they will get used to all the different voices and noises. I guess we are really (finally) doing this...
Thanks for the welcome! Looking forward to the spring. I'll take pic's of our progress once we get started. I'm thinking our first hens will include NH Reds, of course :)
Hi. I've been checking this site out for awhile now and am happy to join. My husband and I and our 4 year old son are in the planning stages of converting a wooden screen house into a coop this spring. I'll be looking for a lot of ideas and tips. I'm am so exciting to start this adventure :)
