I had the same thing happen to me about 3 months ago. I changed their feed and put a light in the coop that stays on for an extra 6 hours after dark. The feed is a layer blend from the coop contains, cracked corn, some salt, ground oyster shell and a few other things I can't recall, no animal...
ok sorry for the sketchy post I made to open this thread, I had my 4 month old granddaughter screaming in my lap as I tried to post.
Here is a beter description. I have 12 hens, I was get 1 or 2 eggs a day then all of a sudden now I get none for the last 2 weeks. Not sure if it is the winter...
I have 12 hens and I am getting only 2-3 eggs per week! All are about 1 year old. any clues? They are being fed a special layer mash from the local coop.
I have 9 layer chicks that are roughly 5 weeks old. I noticed tonight that some of them look like their crops are swollen? I did just feed them about a hour before hand so maybe that is what it is, what I thought was strange was that only 4 of the 9 had this issue going on...
our geese are awesome, they honk and make all kinds of noise in the morning when I go down to let them out, they follow me around the yard like my dogs. and they sit and stare in the window as we watch tv!
I used pine shaving for two years worked great, tried hay this summer and it is much more messy and has to be changed out more often casue it stinks. Pine shaving smell better, you can turn them a few times and just keep adding. I just went back to pine shavings for the winter and it is much...
a 50lb bag of feed runs around $13, my 18 chickens, 2 turkeys, and 2 geese can go about three weeks on that in summer, cause they roam the yard. In winter it will last about 2 weeks. All total I spend roughly $500-$600 a year on feed and bedding. As for the eggs, once you eat fresh eggs from...
I have read a few posts here about people loosing chicks and goslings when they are still young. I have been doing meat chickens for a few years so I buy 25-50 chicks at a time. Prior to the last 2 batchs I generally lost 10-20% of the chicks by the time they got big enough to release with the...
I have 15 chickens, 4 turkeys and 2 geese all living together in one 12x12 coop. Everyone gets along great right now, the turkeys will only be around until Thanksgiving so I am not to concerned about them right now. Everyone free ranges during the day, they just all kinda hangout together...
sorry for the not only off topic post, but also off site post. Could not find a backyardgeese.com, I bought two geese at the fair a few weeks ago to help protect my chickens and drive off predators. So far so good knock on wood! My question is do domestic geese lay eggs once in spring like...
I use the deep litter method here in Wisconsin. During summer I do just what you said, out with the old in with the new. I will clean it until approx end of Sept then I start letting it pile up, I like to get it about 18" deep for winter. Coop is insulated and stays nice and warm on bitter...
I have 14 hens and lately I have been getting 2 or 3 per day. But I just slaughtered a bunch of meat birds and I think my coop was a little over populated for about two weeks and I think the ladies went on strike.
