Brainstorming To Determine What Killed My Birds

Really, the ONLY way to protect your poultry is to keep them in a completely ENCLOSED run and LOCK THEM UP AT NIGHT!!! Wildlife is opprtunistic so you can't blame them if they see each prey. Ckns couldn't be easier ESPECIALLY when they're roosting!! Why even take the chance?????

Brainstorming To Determine What Killed My Birds

wow what a nightmare. fox will hunt day and night, but they generally "grab and run" with their prey. they are shy but clever and once they've had a "hot lunch" (sorry), they will continue to come back and clean you out. however, fox generally don't "chatter", they yip and shriek. a red...

    Uuugggg...bumble foot?

Love your BEe's new name!LOL sadly, you have a vet unfamiliar with farm animals. Too bad you don't live in my neck of the woods as my vet is still a real farm vet and yes is very knowledgeable on chicken health. Still, it's vital to read up as much as possible. Sounds like your other hen had...

    Uuugggg...bumble foot?

I'm so glad to hear the foot has healed well! I hope for your and your ckns sake, no one gets bumblefoot again. But it's pretty common. AND now you know how to treat it. To have birds and keep them properly, you sort of become a Jr vet, just be default!!

chickie-doo needs adoption homes for her girls in NJ

Can your "sweetie" handle 8 birds until you get a coop put up? I've figured out a fair way to split the flock between and red riding egg/Jenna. But I need to put some of my pullets in the coop and run I'm trying to rehome. Otherwise I'd have to give them all to Jenna. AND I'm so thankful for...

chickie-doo needs adoption homes for her girls in NJ

Red riding egg can take the 2 shy girls and possibly put them in with young ducks. They'd be fine, I think.

HELP! RIR 6 week old chick; sick or injured?

This is such a tough situation. You want to give her every possible chance, of course. And I truly hope she pulls thru. We all know that the one's we fuss over the most we get that much more attached to. Don't want to be a downer, but keep in the back of your head that the "weak" or...

    D'uccle Thread

I LOVE d'uccles!!!had a porcelain hen that lived to be 14. The last year of her life, she was alone(her mate had died). I kept her in a HUGE dog crate in my basement and would sit with her every evening with a towel on my lap watching tv. She passed while in my lap March 2014. She was old but...

    Mixing bantams with Standards?

I've often had mixed flocks over the years(bantam with standards). But what I would not do is have standard roosters mixed in with bantam hens. They can completely overwhelm and stress those little girls when they want to mount/breed
