Thank you. I just was surprised she lived so long with such a big issue like this. It must have been building up for a while and then lasted over 2 more months.
Back in August i posted about my hen i thought was eggbound. She had a swollen belly sat down a lot and walked like a penguin. After 2 weeks of warm salt water baths and no progress i figured ill let nature work its course. Well now 2.5months later she died. I opened her up and she just oozed...
That is not good news. She is uncomfortable but still out and about and gets up and down in the coop ok. If she turns for the worse i will cull her and open her up. I was hopingbitd be something else woth an easy fix. She is only 2 years old and very sweet, i hate to see her go
I have a hen who in every way is acting eggbound. Swollen belly, waddles when she walks, not laying. I have done the baths with Epsom salts for over a week. Hasnt helped. I stuck my finger in there and its clear, cant feel an egg. When i massage her belly i feel two hard eggs in there but shes...
We have 12 hens. Rooster is 2 years old and has been with them for most of that time. I'm more curious now why he is singling her out and picking on her so bad. She seems to be eating and drinking just fine and as far as I can tell doesn't seem sick.
Well you all seem to be right about it being an injury. I saw our rooster flush her out of the Bush she was hiding in and chased her and got her really good to the point of bleeding. I have her separated now and hope she will recover
An injury is a bit of a relief. At least it seems better than parasites and disease going around the coop. I'll put her one of the other barns and give her some special treatment for a few days and see if that helps. Thank you all for your advice!!
Yes we do. He's normally not aggressive and is typically very good to the ladies. Do you think maybe this is an injury... rather than an illness/worm...?
No other symotoms. Not sneezong, no discharged no wheezing or heavy breathing. Today when I got home I found her by herself over by the other barn, maybe 100ft from the coop. I walked over to her and she got up and came to me. (Not typical behavior from her). Her eye was open and less swollen...
I noticed my chicken had a swollen eye on Monday. I bought some VetRx and tried to put it on a swab and press it against the roof of her mouth (extremely difficult and seems impossible). Yesterday when I checked on her her eye was open, less swollen but i couldnt see her eyeball. It was all red...
Today she looks very lethargic, she barely keeps her eyes open when I try to keep her attention. I will probably cull her tonight if she doesn't improve. I'd still like to know what caused this :(
