I hope you all are reading this because....
The Urban Agriculture section of the zoning code PASSED UNAMINOUSLY!
Yes, that means we can have chickens in Sparks.:D
There is a set of loose restrictions, so please read the zoning code first!
I've been so busy, I simply forgot to post an update about this. Sorry! At the August meeting, the city council voted on the entire new city zoning code EXCEPT the new Urban Agriculture section. The main part of the new zoning code passed as it was expected to, but since there were only 3 of the...
I started a new thread because the original was a mess of "maybe" information. This thing is actually really truly moving forward with little fanfare and little to no oppposition that I've heard.
The first reading of the brand spiffy new city zoning code occured at the August 10 City Council...
I apologize for the delay in any updates, life has been busy and my internet a little spotty.
This ran in the Sparks Tribune a few days ago:

It's a favorable article, but there is a misprint; the...
Update:
I went to the workshop/meeting on Thursday and it was quite interesting. I'm sorry I haven't posted this earlier, but work and yard work got in the way. The purpose of the meeting was to simply to discuss the wording etc of the working draft of the code changes. The planner wants to...
I don't think so because of limited space and time. There will probably be public opportunities for comment sometime after this, and I'll post here as soon as I know anything else. Keep an eye on the Sparks city website, and email the city council members; their emails are public!
I have not dropped off the face of the earth, but life has been busy and there really haven't been any updates until just the last few weeks. So, here is a summary of what's happening now, as far as I know it. The councilwoman for my ward did give my email address to the senior planner involved...
You would have to ask at the store- I'm not directly involved with them, I just posted the information since I have not seen anyone else from Sparks do so. Thank you for wanting to help!
I'm not the one spearheading this, but your best bet is still to sign the petition at Rail City, email your city council member, and keep an eye on the upcoming city council schedule. I haven't checked recently, but I think they are required to post the meeting agenda at least a few days prior...
It's at Rail City Garden Center in Sparks, just ask at the front counter. I don't know about HOAs, I'm not in one, but I think some are Ok with it in other cities. It depends on each HOA. If you could demonstrate the chickens wouldn't be a nuisance, you may have a shot at convincing them. Thanks...
Best thing that I know of right now is to sign the petition, keep an eye on upcoming council meetings and email the council members. Find out which ward you are in and get in touch with your councilman- they all have public emails. Just be informed and informative because many of them are not...
That's right. The way I understand it is that Reno is OK with it so long as it's not a nuisance and no one complains. Also, anywhere in Washoe County that is not incorporated into any of the cities is fine. Sparks has chickens listed as livestock and you have to be zoned agriculture for them...
