I'm getting mixed results and not many answers when I look on Google.
I have a flock with meriks and we are wanting to introduce more but the some of the new, vaccinated, chicks died in the brooder. We have found good chicks nearby but they are unvaccinated. I have been seeing that it should...
Update: WAY overdue. So she is actually 100% better and looks great! I seriously thought she was going to die at one point. But after expressing the vent (that was horred smelling), keeping an eye on water intake, giving her soft food and a warm place, and giving her an Epson salt bath she felt...
She is going to the vet tomorrow and God I hope she us not egg bound. I have to withhold water sometimes (not all the time obviously) because she will drink until her crop is like a water Ballon. I am worried that if she keeps going she will aspirate and/or her crop will tear.
Edit: also, how...
My chicken phyche appears to have sour crop. Last night I found her beside the coop with water dripping from her mouth. I pick her up and water poors out of her mouth. So I massaged her crop while holding her upside down to give her relief. I started treating her for sour crop and after the 24hr...
Update: it's been a while. She passed away on Tuesday. But we got a much larger brooder bin and the other three are doing well! I think my mom is planning of getting a 4th one bet we would need to get her soon since they grow up so fast.
They will be getting a smaller waterer and a bigger brooder soon but they only came home a few hours ago so I think it may be something else. However, I will try and get things figured out in the long run. It is hard because all of my past supplies got thrown away
We just picked up 4 new girls but our Americana chick is acting very ill. She ate when she first got home but a few hours later and she won't eat or drink as far as I can tell. She also has a poopy vent (which I just cleaned off) and is not wanting to lay down and will try and be as upright as...
The past week my hens have been acting strange. They move around less, eat and drink less, and just seem sad and off. It has been a California cold winter (down to 20°f) which is much colder than usual here. They have all experience multiple winters but never acted like this. I'm not sure if...
I posted a bit ago but I got no answers. So long story short, my 2 yr old chicken has arthritis is evert joint in her right leg. She is in a pain med and cartilage supplement. I'm contemplating heat therapy but I don't know exactly how to do it. Any advice? Anything else I could do at home?
My chicken, Estelle, is a 2 yr old chicken who was recently diagnosed with arthritis in her hip and a fracture in her leg. She us on pain meds and a joint supplement. Her limp is still pretty bad but she still will eat. Any advice on how to keep her comfortable? I'm wondering if any of you have...
My mother and I have been watching a house finch nest (through a spy cam) and have been doing everything we can to create a "human-free"/ stress-free environment in order to not risk her loosing another cluch of eggs. (She nested there 2 years ago and abandoned the nest). Anyways, it is a hot...
