    Foot fungus? *With Pic*

She spent the night in a dog crate, dry on our porch but sadly did not make it through the night. Should I be concerned she had something contagious?? Anyone?

    Chick with cross beak *pics*

We have a 3 month old Salmon Faverolle (also from Ideal) who has a cross beak. She showed no issues until this week and she seems to be going downhill now. She has been unable to properly preen and clean herself because of her beak issue and with all this flooding and rain we have had, she's...

    Foot fungus? *With Pic*

I've got a 3 month old cross beak Salmon Faverolle chick who is not doing too good. It's rained heavily for days, off and on for a week prior and almost our whole yard is standing water. She almost never roosts, she can't really preen due to the cross beak so she was WET today and had mud caked...

Question about night/ swimming water access

But is that ok for them to stay out like that? Just seems so odd! lol I'm not hugely concerned for their safety from predators as they are in our fenced back yard with motion spotlights IN an additional fenced/net covered top area so I feel they are pretty safe. I just don't want them to get...

Question about night/ swimming water access

Ok. So today are my 6 week old ducklings (ducks now? lol) first night out of their brooder. They have housing, food water, safe fenced area. My question is it's 10pm and they are all swimming in their pool. Is this normal? I kind of expected them to go in their house at night since it's windy...

    Still dealing with wry neck.

So I should start using Niacin 200mg instead of the yeast in the feed (how many capsules in their 1 gallon waterer?) as well as Vit E instead of the Nutri-Drench. What type of Vit E? Just regular human gel caps? How many? How should it be administered? Thanks

    Still dealing with wry neck.

Is there a time frame I should see improvement in, or is she going to battle this for life? :( When my duckling was 11 days old I first noticed her spinning with her neck stuck. I asked on here and was told it was wry neck. So, I began to immediately treat it with Sav-a-chick until I got...

What is your wean off heat lamp schedule?

I know everyone has a different opinion about when they are OK without them and of course temperatures outside play into that. I can't even remember when we took the heat lamp away from our hens, it's been two years. I feel like such a first time chick mom sometimes. :p But I also got them...

    RIP My Two Cross Beaks

I am so very sorry. I am struggling with the same thing right now. I have a cross beak Salmon Faverolle. She is almost 1 month and her's is much less severe than your little ones were but I still worry about her constantly and whether letting her live out her life as best she can is the right...

3 week old Brahma's wing ripped off by cat, HELP!!

Thanks for asking. Unfortunately, had to put her down last night. Upon further examination, she was missing more skin then she could live without, it was mostly just muscle. A LOT of the wing would have needed to go and she seemed more in pain as the night went on. Pretty upset about it. She was...

3 week old Brahma's wing ripped off by cat, HELP!!

Yes. Basically what you said. Clean, sterile knife, scissors, nail clippers, etc. A clean cut and then to cleanse well in betadine then neosporin. Re-clean/dress daily until healed. I figure she can't live with the exposed bone. She'll die. So, at least I could attempt a mini surgery on it, keep...

3 week old Brahma's wing ripped off by cat, HELP!!

I added a picture to the original post. I read on a few other posts that if there is exposed bone, the bone should be trimmed back to allow the skin to close over it. I don't know if I could do that but if it would work, I would try.

3 week old Brahma's wing ripped off by cat, HELP!!

The wound itself looks closed. No, not enough skin. There is exposed bone. Infection is my #1 concern and I do not want her to be in pain. :( We do have some Tea tree oil. I can try that.

    no feathers on chest

I have never seen any of my hens pick at each other's chest as a dominant thing. It's always the head, back, tail feathers, etc. Plucking chest feathers sounds like going broody (perhaps she wants to sit on eggs, but the other hens run her out of the nestbox when she tries?) Maybe you could add a...

3 week old Brahma's wing ripped off by cat, HELP!!

PICTURE ADDED***** GRAPHIC!!!******* I am not really sure what to do here. I am afraid of putting something on it that's intended for humans and will harm her. My cat somehow made her way into our storage building where the chicks are being broodered in a very large rabbit cage. She was able...
