Hey Crazy4daisy,
According to the locals... everyone's related somehow... so you may have family all over here! LOL!
I moved in from South Carolina, so I'm fresh blood. ^_^
Welcome to backyardchickens everyone from MO as well!

Since we moved to our farm, our two kids (5 and 7) have lost quite a bit of animals due to various things.
It's hard at first... and no one ever gets the hang of "losing" animals, but it does get better. They learn to cope and understand that things just happen and we must move on.
My kids...
I couldn't stand the crowing anymore... I just couldn't STAND IT!!!!!!!
It's so peaceful and quiet now! ~_^
I'm still getting over the shock that I actually did it....
I think for any beginner... they should start out with a young, meat purpose bird. I just did in my two old annoying roosters...
There's also a swap meet in West Plains... but I can not tell you at the moment when.
I just was told about it on another forum, and went and got my NZW rabbits from there.
I'll try to find the swap times and repost.

Today... I caught my barred rock rooster on top of my duck. I "think" he was trying to mate her... I don't think he hurt her at all, I just didn't understand why he was on top of her and bouncing.
Any suggestions, similar experiences??

You will not need to clip the wings on the Pekin. I would say, probably not on the mallard mix either. Pekins are too heavy to fly in my experience, and they like to stay close to the food and pond. Your other duck will probably be the same. I have a Harlequin Welch, which comes from the Khaki...
Keep them warm and away from dogs and cats! LOL!
Always have food and water available.
They will grow fast, and you have a good setting crew. Partridge Rocks should be pretty good mothers and winter hearty.
Your cochin will be PRETTY!!! I'm not sure about the characteristics of the others...
Yes, that temp should be just fine at a week old. When they get about 2-3 weeks... you can even shut the light off during the day if you have them indoors with no heavy drafts near by.
I always catch spiders and thingy's that come in around the house for them. You should SEE them catch those...
This is what I do...
Ducks are VERY stinky and messy without a good bedding and changed often... but unbelievably... they are also the cleanest fowl when it comes to parasites and things like that... because they like water so much.
They WILL get messy with their water, and they poo poo unlike...
I'm currently a mom to my 2 autistic children, homeschooling them, and keeping them on the gluten and casein free diet. Proud to say, they are recovering and tested on age levels in most areas!!!!!!
I am also an equine and fantasy sculpturess.
We made a move last year to the Ozarks, and it...
