Do chickens stop laying after laying for 4 months?

My third bird is a Buff Orpington. The BO treats the Amerucana like her baby. And the Amerucana acts like the baby. As a result, the BO never gets broody. Could this be a reason for the Amerucana not to lay.

Do chickens stop laying after laying for 4 months?

My Americana stopped laying after laying for 6 months. Is this typical? She layed October through April and just stopped when it got warm. Is she done? She is less than a year old.

    Homemade No Crow Collar

At Home Depot I found wide Velcro straps that I used as a no crow collar. This worked too. These are harder for Santana to pick apart. I cut the Velcro straps to the right size and rounded the edges.

    Homemade No Crow Collar

I think of my chickens as dogs. My puppy had a fit when I put a collar on him. Well obviously he had to have one. I started with loose cloth and worked my way up the food chain to a collar. My point is that they can get use to it. Back to the chickens. I had to make a few of my no crow collars...

    Homemade No Crow Collar

Yes, I am already using them on my city hens. I did my do diligence and informed neighbors when I got chickens. They were fine. Then 6 months later, new neighbors. These work. Just make sure it is tight enough but not so tight that your pinky finger cannot fit under the collar when it is in the...

    Homemade No Crow Collar

I thought I would share this. I ordered a No Crow Collar, but it was too wide for my chickens. So I made one. Basically you need no sew velcro. The loop side (soft side) should be wider than the hook side. The length is based upon your chicken. I managed to find loop side velcro fabric. I...

How I solved the thin shell problem

I finally figured out not to feed my chickens Purina Chicken food. Their QA/QC is way off. I switched to Bar Ale along with the other half of my county.

    Runny poop

One of my 3 chickens has runny poop. Here is a pic. The runny poop is next to good poop and on top of a brick. I have had chickens for 6 months and this is a first. They have been laying every day and seem fine. Do I need to be worried?

    FLIES!

The flies happens to land on the stick and gets stuck. I have the bag too. It does not have a smell. After a few flies get stuck, more flies come over to see what the party is about and gets stuck too. I use the stick closer to the house and the stink bag really far from the house.

    FLIES!

I also hung a stick trap above the bucket that I use to collect the chicken poop in to dry out. I have 3 full sticks now. There are so many flies on them that new flies are walking over the old flies. Time to get another stick. I caught a bunch of flies there

    FLIES!

I have a fly bag up. I also removed any distracting fresh chicken poop from my chicken area so the flies would only be attracted to the bag. Flies are not interested in dry chicken poop. Some of the flies went into the bag to die and some just hovered around the bag and would land on or around...

How I solved the thin shell problem

Thank you for the great information. For my 2 RIR I gave the equivalent of 1 dime sized kibble each a day for two weeks until the one that was laying thin shells stopped. 1 kibble compared to the cup a day of layer feed is not much. Just enough to help out. If the 1 chicken has thin walls again...

How I solved the thin shell problem

Hello chicken buddies, one of my RIR was laying a perfect egg, the other was laying an egg with really thin shells. After much observation, I noticed that they both ate the same thing. I had oyster shells out for them too. I would see them peck at the oyster shells as needed. So I read the...
