I started with 6 "hens" and cried when we had give away the one rooster(we live in town with close neighbors). Then over last 3 1/2 yrs I've lost all but one. Glynda Pearl is my last one. Hubby says no more until we move out to the country. What sweeties!

I notice posts saying not to rush them laying but mine started squatting when I walked near them a couple of weeks before they started laying. They were still on chick starter, I've only just switched to layer. How do you delay laying?
Food and water outside under the coop. My coop isn't big enough for birds and food containers. Plus, the coop stays open to the run, it's too hot here to close them up.
One of my girls started last week @ 15 wks. She skipped a few days and now seems daily. Yesterday one of the others started, though it was a strange looking little thing. Hope the oystershell kicks in quick!
I'm in Dothan. I have 5 hens and 1 rooster. Perfect except that I live "in town" and my rooster(formerly known as Dottie) alerts the neighborhood of daybreak and mid-morning and lunch time and squirrel(I think he's watched the dog too much). Thanks to this chicken community I have learned so much.
