I started with 6 "hens" and cried when we had give away the one rooster(we live in town with close neighbors). Then over last 3 1/2 yrs I've lost all but one. Glynda Pearl is my last one. Hubby says no more until we move out to the country. What sweeties!
You are sooo not alone! Saturday morning coffee with about 15 minutes to take a quick look can turn into a couple of hours. After the 3rd cup and bad case of caffeine shakes I realize my morning is about gone. That doesn't count the rest of the week. Some days I just can't ever go by the...
I notice posts saying not to rush them laying but mine started squatting when I walked near them a couple of weeks before they started laying. They were still on chick starter, I've only just switched to layer. How do you delay laying?
Food and water outside under the coop. My coop isn't big enough for birds and food containers. Plus, the coop stays open to the run, it's too hot here to close them up.
One of my girls started last week @ 15 wks. She skipped a few days and now seems daily. Yesterday one of the others started, though it was a strange looking little thing. Hope the oystershell kicks in quick!
I'm in Dothan. I have 5 hens and 1 rooster. Perfect except that I live "in town" and my rooster(formerly known as Dottie) alerts the neighborhood of daybreak and mid-morning and lunch time and squirrel(I think he's watched the dog too much). Thanks to this chicken community I have learned so much.
Mine are doing the same thing! In fact I just came in from putting them to bed. Only one went in on her own. They've been out for a week now, well, almost a week and that's after being locked in for bout a week. My father ,who grew up with chickens, said they will figure it out. But....it bugs...
I talk to mine too! Of coarse my children make fun of me and accuse me of loving the chickens more than them. But does that stop me? Noooo! I just give them a chore to do, send them away and continue with the chicken baby talk. My chicks love it. ( My girls love them too but just like to make...
My husband and oldest DD LOVE AI.....I don't watch until much later. Ugh, I think my ears are bleeding! Someone....make it stop! I'm not in the room with them but can hear it.
