Mottled java
Cuckoo marans
So excited about the new chicks we just picked up from tractor supply! We got 4 mottled javas, 5 cuckoo marans, and 7 assorted bantams! Any ideas on baby an breeds would be great Going to need help sexing these guys in the near future!
So momma has finally settled on the configuration of her nest. She is now alternating between laying and standing panting and bearing down! Should not be long now!
Here is momma soo close to Farrowing! She is actively nesting, frantically rearranging her hay the way she wants it. So hopefully we will have babies soon.
So I decided to go with an a-frame style coop.
Reasons why.
.thought it would be easier
. Take up less material
. Be moved easier
. Not take up as much room.
Boy was I wrong!
The angles are a nightmare when all u have is a table saw, square, and measure tape!
The material reduction was...
[These are Cornishx hen / copper Maran roo. Hatched yesterday
All are white with little specks of black
Also side note I got my Cornishx hens from a commercial farm they were left overs, they each lay 5-6 eggs a week
And although they had a rough life on a chicken house they have adapted well...
So I went to this feed store to get baby turkeys and ended up with a little of everything...lol
4 turkeys
2 ducks
3 silkes 2 babies and 1 roo
3 naked neck chicks
3 americauna/EE sp?
2 mixed feather legged bantams
And 2 lavender guinea meets
So excited!
Better start building some coops. Here...
My 12 bantie baby's spent there first night outside last night.... they are living it! My big ol'girls are so ok mad... all ten of them were sleeping in the little co-op. The babies are loving being able to scratch in the shavings and dirt. And got there very first taste of scratch grains today...
So they are about 3 weeks old now. Pretty sure there are 2 pullets and a roo, and 1 mystery breed/sex.
Pullet?
Pullet?
Roo? A so y such short feathers?
The mystery?
We used to have this big white roo named Merlin. And his 4 rir hens where simply Merlins girls. Now we have Bob and Christine (named after my step dad and his gf...lol). Plus 12 commercial chickens with no names...thinking of food names....jk
And 12 assorted bannies awaiting names.
That's what I thought too but these chickens were laying ? I got a few eggs the day they arrived... from stress maybe but none since.
This farm only gets cleaned out 1-times a year... so the chickens are older...I think their chickens are used to produce hatching eggs.
