    Hen with angry bald bottom

Most of my hens molted late fall, but I have 2 who are molting now. This girl looks good with the exception of her bottom, she’s not lost any other feathers. The weather has been awful and they have been choosing to stay inside so it does not surprise me that they may be picking at each other...

    Hen with angry bald bottom

What is the reasoning behind feeding the flock raiser vs layer feed. Is there a certain percentage of protein that’s preferable? Any guesses on what’s going on with her bottom?

    Hen with angry bald bottom

What kind of feed do you recommend? I have access to Southern States and TSC. Honestly I had a very hard time managing her and trying to examine her while she struggled. This swelling is beneath her vent.

    Hen with angry bald bottom

This is under her tail, her “bottom”. I have 19 hens, 1 young Roo. Coop is 12x12 horse stall. Run is 20X6 covered. I am feeding Nutrena Layer Feed dry. They previously were fed fermented feed, but since my daughter moved back home into the guest room near the laundry I can’t ferment my feed...

    Hen with angry bald bottom

18mth old Copper Marans Hen has lost the feathers on her bottom and the skin is red, dry, swollen and angry looking. The swelling is fairly soft. She is otherwise fine, took me forever to catch her and she fought the whole time I was holding her. The photos are crummy b/c I was holding her...

Need some help identifying the breeds of these chicks.

Sorry about the photos, they are in order in my computer and I checked them in order but that's not how they posted. #1 is the only one I felt sure of the breed, I agree he's a CL. From the shells I found in with the Broody there should be a Bielefelder and a Swedish Flower in there. These...

Need some help identifying the breeds of these chicks.

Any guesses? I'm guessing #1 is Cream Legbar, #2 is OE, #3 Swedish Flower Hen, #4 Swedish Flower or Bielefelder, #5 Bielefelder, #6 OE, #7 OE. These are my guesses, I really need folks who know what they are looking at to chime in.

Need some help identifying the breeds of these chicks.

I need some help identifying the breeds of these 8wk old chicks. I am 100% certain that 3 of them are Olive Eggers b/c I hatched them in the house. The others were hatched by a broody and all were raised by the broody. The other possible breeds are Cream Legbar, Bielfelder, and Swedish...

Can I feed fruit pulp with citrus in it?

I have been using my juicer recently and I have tons of fruit pulp left over. Problem is about 30% of the pulp is from oranges. Any chance it's safe to feed to my chickens? Thanks

Feather loss from Rooster not growing back after 6mths

Thank you! I really just want to make sure there is nothing wrong that I need to address.

Feather loss from Rooster not growing back after 6mths

We got rid of our jerk rooster 6mths ago. About half of our laying flock of 17 had feather loss on their backs. Now 6mths later almost all of them still have the same feather loss, just bare red backs. Some are worse than others, some have had some regrowth. One very timid hen has a...

    What Breed/Sex? Please.

It's so hard to me to tell and it seems like several have big reddish combs. Out of the 7 how many would you guess are cockerels?

    What Breed/Sex? Please.

I have 7, 5 week old chicks. I had Olive Egger, Swedish FLower Hen, Beilfelder, Cream Legbar and Blue Ameraucana eggs. I am pretty sure none of these are Ameraucana as I did have one hatch and die and it was distinctly blue. I know for a fact 3 of them are Olive Eggers b/c I hatched them in...

Introducing the chicks to the flock

My chicks are 5wks old and are living in a separate "room" inside the coop. Our coops is a 12x12 horse stall converted to a coop. We built a 4x6 room inside with wire walls so everyone can see each other. I'm pretty sure my chicks are still too young to move into the main coop. My questions...
