    Bedding material for brooder??

I think I've solved my wood chips in the feeder problem at least. As long as the girls don't decide to try sitting on it, it should hold up and it's high enough from the floor that they don't kick much into it!

    Keeping Chickens Free Range

Thanks so much for all your replies! I'm so glad I asked! I guess free ranging the girls is probably not the right option in this particular case. Now I'll be looking closer into Plan B: chicken tunnels!

First time owner! Any experience with Golden Laced Wyandotte colors?

For reference, here are the two gold laced (huddled together on the right) with the silver laced (in the corner on the left). Hope it helps! I wish I'd taken more pictures last year.

First time owner! Any experience with Golden Laced Wyandotte colors?

First off, I must say that I think you made a good choice going with wyandottes as a first time chicken owner. I got a trio last year for my first chickens and they have just been lovely. They're gorgeous birds, very smart, and mine have been excellent layers this year! Your little Lilly...

    Bedding material for brooder??

Hi all! This is my second year raising chicks and I have been using pine shavings in my brooder for the chicks. The shavings are comfortable, warm, and smell nice, but it's really annoying for the chicks to kick into the water and the feeder. I'm constantly having to empty it out. Should I...

    cutest chicken names!

Last year we named our SLW Dumpling and our two GLWs Nugget and Popcorn. This year we've got a buff orp named Waffles, a golden sex-link named Buffy, and a mystery chick named Bleu. (It was supposed to be a BLRW but now is possibly just a blue wyandotte or something black-ish/grey-ish. Guess...

    Keeping Chickens Free Range

Hi all! I have three hens that are almost a year old and have been kept in a fairly decent sized run for that time. I am considering transitioning them to free range. We've got a pasture that's maybe about 1/2 acre (fenced, though it may be a bit weak in some areas) that I had intended to put...

    What color is this Wyandotte???

Oh no!! Guess I've got an australorp this year. And I also guess I'll be going to a different place to try to find my blue laced red this year! Thanks for the input!

    Australorps breed Thread

Okay guys I was sold this chick as a blue laced red wyandotte. After looking at some pictures I'm wondering if this is actually an australorp?? It's about 2 weeks old here. This is the first day they were brought home.

    What color is this Wyandotte???

Just a guess, but looking at some pictures, any chance this is an australorp chick?

    What color is this Wyandotte???

Hmmm... Any idea what it could be instead? At the feed store it was in the bin with the silver laced pullets as well but I wasn't paying attention to what else was supposed to be in there.

    What color is this Wyandotte???

That's what I'm thinking... The initial coloring was a bit different but the older it gets, the more it's looking like my silver laced from last year

    What color is this Wyandotte???

I got my chicks from a local ranch store. I've never gotten a blue laced red wyandotte before, but this chick seems a bit dark to me. As it gets older I'm seeing a lot of white and a lot of black. What do you guys think, did they sell me a silver laced??? First picture is from their first day...

    Security Camera Maybe???

I have three chickens that started laying about a week and a half ago. Between the three of them we got six eggs within about four days. Now all the eggs have stopped. I rather doubt that they have all concurrently stopped laying, but this is my first experience with chickens. Is it normal...
