@TurtlePowerTrav aaawwww! A young mom, BO hens make great mamas
@Y N dottes I SO forget to look at locations... I write for a gardening website and it is so hard to write to everyone on the WWW as we are all in different seasons around the globe. Thanks for keeping me on track.
ChookyDeb...
I know, right? LOL Den in Penn brought up a good point ... they do get a little "touch me not". My grandfather would roll over in his grave if he could see what chicken coops have turned into these days in some places... I envy people that can keep a coop so "cool looking" LOL
We had a few...
I hesitated to post this, didn't want everyone to think I was a complete weirdo, but, well, ahem, I guess I am. I do a LOT of chicken watching. I mean, hours and hours... and more hours. I've seen more stronger willed hens want a box and chase another hen out just as she was about to lay, I...
I agree with joneus :) They will be totally fine doing what they want.
Predators aside, if talking strictly about temperature. We have five birds that are younger than the main flock, haven't started laying yet. They sleep on an outdoor roost in the run; about four feet off the ground. I have...

I X2 the Buff Orpington, although many different roosters could fit this bill. It will depend on your hens too, he may end up being only as aggressive as they are. You could always adopt a rooster :) We got our BO roo at an auction ( i felt sorry for him, he was older, but gorGEOUS!) We hatched...
Could they be getting pooped on from above? LOL
My girls get much quieter when molting and while they're not laying. Some just seem to want quiet and peace and find that in sleeping in the nesting boxes. Me, I just let them. There are no eggs to break, it's warmer, it's cozier... sigh, now all...
THAT's a pretty cool idea. I have been toying with the idea of using a "freezer" curtain as well. I have a couple of younger birds that roost on the steps (inside). They simply will not (or are not allowed by the others) to roost inside. Hoping this may keep some of the sparrows out of the coop...
