Awesome. Quick question. My broody finally went back to the coop leaving her 8 week old chicks. They have been integrated with the flock as all ate free range and didn't see any issues. Is it suggested to let them continue to go back to the brooder boces at night or move them into the coop one...

We can't move the boxes, he built them out of wood with no inserts....so, making due and yes, hoping the momma is a good mom. One of the reasons I now have Buffs, Cochins, and Silkies....broody hens.

This is all great advice, thank you! I feel much better, I was really worried about them wandering out and going splat. I plan to stay home on Thursday just in case, not that I can do anything but, and well, because I need a day off from both my jobs. Our boxes are about 4 feet off the ground...

OK, thanks for the responses. We also have a lot of hawks and that worried me. And, we do have separate housing for the bantams now so that's perfect.

Abe, our rescue rooster. I know the girls are Rhode Island Reds but Abe has something else mixed in, Ameraucana? maybe? Abe is his name, well, because of his beard of course. His former people called him Red and he was beat up daily. He is so sweet, not like our last one who had me trapped on...

So an update - our chicken still has a green leg...nothing seems wrong with her, it doesn't bother her, she walks fine, no issues...just the top part of one of her legs is green. So, guess it is just coloring...

I can't get my pic to load (way out here in the boonies) but I wondered if it was bruised. She isn't favoring the leg. I should be able to get pics up tomorrow

One of our 2 month old chicks has 1 green leg. It is slightly warmer than the other leg with maybe a sore on the back of the leg joint. Washed it with an iodine and water solution from a tip I found on this site.....any ideation? Didn't see anything else wrong with the leg under the feathers....
