Saved 5 chicks from deplorable conditions. 2 are Rhode Island Reds, 2 are the same breed and 1 breed of another. Any help as to what breed these are would be appreciated. Thinking 2 may be black sex link and the other Black Australorp or Jersey Giant
Thank you for the worm explanation. I will keep a look out for them and take your advice if I observe any. It was 90 something yesterday in PA and same for today, so I'm so glad something tugged at me yesterday to get those chicks or they would not be alive. Our local shelters are filled...
The sad thing is, they knew full well how to care for them, they just didn't want to. They would have starved them to death if i would not have taken them. They bought them because they were "cute".
They seem to be doing well this morning. They sure have been drinking the water and eating the feed I gave them. Their feathers are rather dull and a little frazzled looking, but I'm sure the lack of nutrition and sunlight have played a part in this.
Believe me, when I saw where these...
Rescued 5 chicks today in deplorable living conditions. No food, water, sunlight. Put them in separate pen from my own hens. Hosed them off, gave food and water. They were starved. What do I look for as in possible problems? They were born in March. Two are Rhode Island reds, believe 2 are black...
Another chicken has it on one foot, but hers is not as bad, so I'm suspecting the rodents. We had a problem last summer, but thought we got them all. I suppose not. Thank you.
Can anyone explain what this may be? It was only one foot last week which I cleaned with betadine solution and put antibiotic cream, but last night noticed both feet are like this. With the blood, of course, the others are pecking. Never experienced this before. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi there:
Out of the blue Saturday AM, one of my Dominiques was laying on the ground. Thought she was dusting, but upon further inspection, she could not stand up. Seemed otherwise okay. Have separated her. She is eating, drinking and can lean on her hocks so to speak, but cannot stand up...
hen was laying down. Picked her up but she won't stand. She was fine yesterday. Comb looks fine. Will eat. Some have just started laying. Could she be egg bound? Any help is appreciated.
Coop is fully enclosed with ventilation up top. Plenty of room to get away from heat lamp, etc. They have been in the garage with 50 to 60 degrees. So, I agree, too, that they will be okay. Thanks for your input.
I've had chicks before, but our weather was not nearly as crazy as this years.
Chicks are fully feathered and 7 weeks old and growing like weeds. We live in south central PA and have had some crazy weather. Can I put them in the outside coop with a heat light now even if the temp would get down to 30 or a little below? This morning woke up to 25 degrees. We have them...
