A fox managed to get in to my hen house. It killed 2 young pullets, one is missing, so assume he took that one away with him. One other pullet was on the coop floor, and I thought she was dead, but she is indoors now and still alive. I have checked her over but can't find any injuries. She is...
I wanted to get a dual purpose breed, that would be a good size for meat and a decent egg layer. So I opted for jersey giants, and hatched 4 that turned out to be pullets. Then realised that they were slow maturing, so after a bit of reading, decided to hatch some le bresse as they are big and...
I put 2 week old outside with a brinsea eco glow as their source of heat. They spent the whole day out in their run, and only went under the heat at night. They feathered out super fast once I put them outside, within 1 week of going out, they were almost feathered out.
No temp spikes. Incubated in a brand new brinsea mini advanced. Temp was spot on according to the brinsea and 2 extra thermometers. I dry incubated for the first 18 days and then from lock down the humidity was at around 70%.
It was alive and moving around at lockdown.
I have 2 one week old chicks. At what age can I let them go outside for a while, and how long for?
In the day time the temp has been 50/60 degrees Fahrenheit.
I could not break my broody, so decided to give her 2 chicks that hatched 1 week ago.
Initially it seemed to be going ok, for the first hour or so, she kept them tucked under her.
Then 1 started to chirp madly, I went to check, and it was in a corner alone.
I tried to put it back under her, but...

This egg went into lockdown alive, almost 100% sure, as I saw it moving. Pumped up the humidity to 75%. It didn't hatch, so I checked it, and did the eggtopsy.
What do you think happened?
When I started letting the broody free range with her chicks and the rest of the flock, she was challenged on several occasions, but no harm was done. But when the highest in the pecking order challenged her, she would run off, briefly forgetting about her chicks. It was during these times that...
