Did you ever get chicks? You can get some in Taunton at Ventura grain. Anyway I was wondering if you know what the bylaws are for chickens in Raynham? We were thinking of moving there possibly and wanted to get a heads up before.

    Jalapenos?

They woofed them down with no hesitation. But my girls eat pretty much anything healthy including garlic. The only thing I've seen them pick at was Brussels sprouts, but they still ate them. I do feed my chickens fermented organic food. They really don't seem to be as picky as some...

    Jalapenos?

I'm about to go see what my girls think of them. I haven't seem much they've turned their nose up at. I'll post later with the results.

    BYC members in Massachusetts?

We are thinking of moving to Templeton MA or towns in that area. I'm looking for chicken friendly towns. We will be on 2 acres hopefully. I'm just wonder what experiences people have had. Currently I am in Rehoboth and haven't had any problems but we are looking to move. Thanks

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

I use a loosely fitting lid with holes in it. It's a 5 gallon bucket.

    ISA-Brown page. :)))))))

I bought 8 ISA Brown pullets from TSC. 7 of them seem to be getting typical golden/orange/brownish colored feathers and one is almost white (not a pure white but cream/yellow white). They are 3 1/2 weeks old. The whitish looking one doesn't have a larger comb than the others. It is slightly...

    Kombucha scoby for the girls?

I would avoid putting in fridge. Scobys will not thrive with refrigeration.

    Kombucha scoby for the girls?

Wow, pretty scobys. I cut one up every month or so and then and mix it in their fermented feed. They are not that easy to cut up though.

    Feeding Organic?

Fermenting might be an option too. It's fairly easy and bumps up the nutrition. I buy Green Mountain at a local farm store but I may invest in Scratch & Peck since they have free shipping. Organic is considerably more expensive but to me, totally worth it. I have always gone the organic...

    BYC members in Massachusetts?

Oh how cool. That is definitely an option. We were just going to divide up the run but this is super cute. My husband was talking about making a chicken tractor. I will show him this when he gets home from work. Thanks for sharing. I love the domed shape or what else would you call that...

    BYC members in Massachusetts?

Yeah, I'm finding that raising chickens is forcing me to deal with loss. Probably not a bad thing since I tend to be sensitive and will have to deal with losing birds from time to time.

Oh, I'm so sorry! What a heartbreaking loss.

Ok, I just wondered if by a certain age chicks are nearly full grown for the most part. Kind of like a ball park number that is typical for most chickens.

    Fermented Feeds

I agree. It's amazing and so glad I came across the idea when researching chickens. As an avid Kombucha and Kefir brewer it was definitely up my alley. I do the backslop method which I find is easier for me to just keep the process going without straining and changing buckets. I just add in...

As this is my first time with chicks can you tell me approximately what age they would be the same size? I currently have all full size chickens. They are RI Reds, Golden Comets or sex links or Isa Browns (can't figure out which they are since they were given to me), and the chicks will be...
