HELP!! Need tips on introducing a house duck to an existing outside flock.

We took the chance of her small size that she was a female. She laid her first egg to confirm it this past week. Not sure what breed she is mixed with, but there is some runner in there somewhere.

HELP!! Need tips on introducing a house duck to an existing outside flock.

They are inseparable. When Missy takes flight a couple feet, Maggie runs to catch up. Maggie is also learning to trust us as she came from a wild flock. We get a little closer to her everyday. She will eat some food we toss at her, but not from our hands. It will just take time.

Is it cruel to keep a house duck indoors all the time?

Thanks for the tip! My friend is wanting to reinforce the base and add wheels to make it like a tractor. That should help. The area is in the area of Blue Ridge where the mountains begin. We have seen wild turkey, raccoons, rabbits, and a bear once. Not sure about coyotes? I think where we are...

How vulnerable are small ducks to copperheads?

Today I saw a 2' long brown snake dart under our front porch this am. And or course today when the girls were outside grazing they wanted to sleep under the deck to escape the sun and hawks in the area. I have a small mallard and runner mix that is on the small side. Is it likely for a...

HELP!! Need tips on introducing a house duck to an existing outside flock.

When missy is inside and on the bed with me she usually hangs out around my feet. although when the lights go out she migrates quickly to beside my head, usually near my shoulder and peeps a little distress sound as she comes. She doesn't like the dark at all! We installed a light and things...

HELP!! Need tips on introducing a house duck to an existing outside flock.

We had just got her today. When dark came outside they both got pretty vocal so they are in the bathtub tonight. It would have been Missy's first time outside all night and was Maggie's first night away from her flock. We might try outside tomorrow night or soon.

Is it cruel to keep a house duck indoors all the time?

Not sure if they will go up top or use nesting boxes as ducks prefer the ground I have heard, but maybe use it in winter. It was out first day using it. We found it on eBAY and it is made by Top Paw. We had to put it together ourselves and it isn't the best construction, but it looks great and...

HELP!! Need tips on introducing a house duck to an existing outside flock.

Missy is being awful pokey and pushy to her new buddy. Not to the point of making Maggie squawk, but how long is ok? The new bird is eating and making happy sounds, just want adjustment for her to be smooth. She is away from her flock for the first time....although she was the runt of the litter...

HELP!! Need tips on introducing a house duck to an existing outside flock.

Missy and her new runner mix friend Maggie. She was the smallest of the flock we got her from and is acting submissive to Missy. Couple neck bites and poking but I assume that is normal. They are eating and swimming together after an hour together. She is a runner mix I guess. Her head looks...

Missy and her new runner mix friend Maggie! She was the smallest of the flock we got her from so is super submissive. Missy had a couple neck bites and pokes at Maggie at first, but they seem happy together after just an hour!! New coup is awesome!

Is it cruel to keep a house duck indoors all the time?

I am struggling with what to do with my beloved pet Mallard I have raised from a small flock a year ago. Her flock mates migrated the first fall, but she chose to say with us/humans. She must have loved the handouts of bell pepper and lettuce too much. Our solution was to bring her indoors and...
