My Cubalaya girls are killing me this year. I generally have 2-3 a summer that go broody. We scoop them up with their nest and put them in the "maternity ward"-a fenced off area of the coop. They stay put and become decent moms. This year, I've had SEVEN go broody at once. They aren't even...

Hello! You will find excellent information here. Members are more than willing to answer questions. They are an extremely versatile breed. They do very well in our humid, hot Kentucky summers and snowing winters-extremely hardy birds.

Maybe I am just lucky, but I strictly free range, and they come to the coop at night. That said, I do use broody hens to rear babies rather than brood, so I think they learn from birth to return to the coop. The few young birds I've received have always returned to the coop (they are terribly...

I may well take you up on that if I have some hens go broody soon-usually by March. I love my pullets and rooster that Barb Graham brought back to me. I hope that black stag we sent will throw some nice birds for you!

Wow!! Congrats, Zach! He is absolutely gorgeous. Well-deserved win, and great exposure for the breed.

My tiniest serama just hatched four Cubalaya chicks-three of which you can see peeking out. Really hoping some are hens as I am covered up in roosters yet again this summer.

I'm so sorry about Cupid. At least I have a few of Cassius' offspring to remember him by. Don't tell my chickens about your chickens' legal maneuvers. They might start a class action lawsuit! lol. ;)

Not been a happy spring for me. Lost my rooster, Cassius, to a fox in the middle of the day. She has three kits, and he died thwarting her hungry efforts. All my hens are now locked in the big pen, which they're not pleased about. They got very spoiled running about free, but they can't be...

These came out of mostly BBR and black stock with some white roosters. My big black hen with Asil graded in started out the color of the little black chicken, and I believe the pale yellow will be a wheaten hen. All my darker "chipmunk" chicks have ended up BBR roosters.

This boy is very twitterpated! Spring is definitely in the air! Anyone have broody hens or babies hatching? (Please excuse all the white showing in his tail, he lost 4-5 big feathers in a tussle with one of his sons over winter-now pot pie-and it revealed the white below.)

I think it's a fantastic idea. I'm not sure that I'm knowledgable to contribute much except money or pictures. I'm a decent writer were I to compile other's info.

Oh good. I'm glad I didn't get that wrong. I checked with her. I was right about your line and she also has Wicked from Christopher Wallen of PA. So mine are therefore your line and her mix.

I started with my original trio in March 2015. I will defer to @wood&feathers to answer the lineage question. She started me with a trio, and I will foster broodies for her, and we've swapped out some birds. I think some of her birds came from @cubalaya ?
