Mixed ducklings hatched Saturday. I know what those grey/black and yellow tuxedo ducklings grow out like. And, those mallard looking ones.
Any guesses what the sable colored one (in the front) might come out like?
Ducks: Fawn white runner, golden layers, white layer, ancona, blue swede and...
Finally got one!!! They're always together and photo bombing each other.
The blue and white is the one in question. I noticed the feathers are much further behind in development. I'm not certain they have the same hatch date. I am guessing a male (based on female chickens wing feather tips...
This is Peaches.
She built a nest before she even started laying about 5 weeks ago. And has been sitting all day since 9/9!
I have a black runner drake that is the only one I've seen mate with her. They are fertile and pretty sure they won't be mixed breed!
I tried to hatch the first few...
I finally found a place in my heart for scovies... I had a pair, not yet laying. And went and got 3 more 'lings.
I am sure 2 are girls. I picked the smallest ones out of about 6 or 7. I would love a seasoned eye to tell me if the 3rd one looks like a male.... I have a scovy drake already. So...
Yeah, it was a lot more swollen shut the first day I noticed it... They seem to be feeling totally fine tonight. Still red eyes but it looks like it is getting better. If it was one chick I would think it was just some injury. But since 2 of them have it, I dont know. I wonder if they get...
Ohhhh yea. The air cell was between day 21 and 26. I didn't break the membrane around the chicks to see moisture because it freaked me out... Maybe next time I will have the nerve. My hands were sweating so badly.
Now at least I better understand the air cell. Unfortunately at their expense...
I picked up 2 Salmon Faverolle chicks last Satursday. They are almost 4 weeks old.
When I got home, I put them outside in the temp enclosure for them to start adapting to the life here... It is So Cali, nice weather for them to be in... When I went to check on them a few hours later, one was...
Carefully opened each on as I read about doing... they are all dead. Nobody broke through the air sac. They were all in the correct position. Was the membrane too thick to break through?
Day 29. Indian Runner eggs.... The lone silkie egg I had with them hatched out yesterday morning just fine. I was hatching for the ducks so, humidity has been 50%-65% (did my best to keep up raised) and during lock down up to 75-80%. Next time, I am doing a dry hatch... I didn't read about that...
My Ancona just started laying. This is her 3rd egg... I know they can come out wobbly and with ridges. Same deal with one that's engraved? It goes all the way around, straight line/circle.
They are free range. Organic feed, no GMO or soy. Oyster shell is in feed as well as offered free...
Such beautiful ducks!!!!! I am really in love with the different markings on these Anconas <3
Blue eyes? Can someone shed some more light on what the colored eyes are about? Mine are all brown except the Muscovies, which I guess are not exactly ducks. And the Muscovies have neat cat colored...
Awwwwee!! They all look sooo happy!!! Such adorable photos of beautiful cutie ducks!!! I love the one of Kiki giving kisses and Osono all muddy <3 what a sweetie!!! Mine are just starting to eat from my hand but I have to keep very still!
So, some drakes are gentlemen? I had a Pekin drake that...
Yeah, great now I am looking at buying some Ancona eggs lol.. I really like what I am reading about them and seeing how her temperament is a little different.
Kirby really has her own way of doing things. I thought it was because she was a rescue and was with only chickens for about a week...
