    Suffering bad after loss

How are we feeling today? Checking up on ya!! Why does a chicken coop have 2 doors? (if it had 4, it'd be a chicken Sedan)

    Raccoon Issues!

I had a major raccoon problem - this fixed it - https://kencove.com/fence/Electric+Net+Fencing_products.php Also, I leave a live trap out with marshmallows covered in peanut butter as bait. Since doing this - Caught 6 raccoons 2 possums and lost 0 chickens. That fence will drop me (260lbs) to...

    Suffering bad after loss

Hang in there. Remind yourself that this is normal and it get's better day by day. Be thankful you have these feelings.

I've also done this and it worked well - Tractor Supply sells a very cheap (like $30) 5' tall roll of black plastic netting (I think 100' long). They also sell fiberglass electric fence post (like $1 or $2 ea). I made a very large fenced in area doing this when I had about 60 chickens. This...

Hello all. What is killing my chickens?

Ours was a hawk. Found dead chickens occasionally with a neck that resembled an eaten ear of corn. We witnessed this once. Raccoons normally leave a mess of feathers and a destroyed corpse. (from our experience)

Also, Hawks can see a mouse from a 100 feet in the air. Don't trust a bush to keep your chickens safe.

    Emergency run ideas.

Well, I had the same problem. First and foremost, roaming or not, they need to be covered while the hawk situation is taken care of. My fix, was to buy heavy gauge 10 year netting and chain link fence and cover/surround their coop/run. Not practical for everyone. I think your only safe...

Austrorphington (I guess) - What sex?

So my babies hatched yesterday - they are a mix between a Buff Orphington Rooster and Black Austrolope hens. This is my first time with this combo. Have any of you had this mix? Is there a way to tell the sex by color? Still very young, but all I can tell right now is their necks and butts...

That thin chicken wire has been known to be destroyed by raccoons. I'd suggest the rolled 1/2" grid. It's thicker. Also, you will probably only need to wrap the lower 24".

    Mille Feur Sexing from Comb?

So, my Mille Fleur D'uccles are all about 5 weeks old. Some are showing very large red combs while others are not. Do you think this is a somewhat safe way to tell the roos from the hens?

Hawks! How can I keep the hawks away from my chickens?

After losing over 18 chickens to hawks, raccoons, and foxes - I decided drop some coin into electrified netting, as well as heavy gauge overhead netting to enclose my coop. Outside of my coop, I made a fenced in area from the 5' rolls of black plastic netting from Tractor Supply (which is light...
