    Any other hawaiians out there?

That's good to hear. I've been focusing my energy there for that reason, but every time I tell someone that, they insist I want to be in Mililani, even friends that are locals. I don't want to discount their input, but we all prefer different things and Wahiawa seems like it will better suit our...

    Any other hawaiians out there?

Thank you! That's helpful. We're trying to find an accommodating property for both a couple bee hives and chickens.

    Any other hawaiians out there?

Aloha and mahalo! Yes, the military is sending us (after ~18 years of begging :celebrate), but we will be in the middle. Somewhere around Wahiawa or Mililani. We're used to keeping chickens in a quiet neighborhood setting, and try really hard to be good neighbors so here's hoping it works out...

    Any other hawaiians out there?

We'll be moving to Oahu in a couple months and I'm trying to collect information now on the chicken rules. Do you happen to have any updates on this proposed county change?

ISO: Male Mute Swan in Oregon

Hello, I inherited a swan recently when I purchased a new home. It's unclear when or what the circumstances were, but at some point she lost her mate and it is just her. I'm looking to help a lonely sista out. If anyone knows of anyone with swans in the area, any help locating a mate for my...

hatch to slaughter? how long to get to weight

We will be butchering our two turkeys tomorrow morning. We got them as little fluff balls on June 4th so they are at 23 weeks. The hen, a Red Bourbon weighed in this evening at 16.8 lbs, the BBB weighed in at 44.5 lbs. This was the live weight obviously. Feed was 25% crumbles until 4 weeks...

    North Carolina

All excellent points. I appreciate you sharing your experience and perspective. At least the ducks are happy with all this rain. The yard had become a small lake. They're literally swimming in the grass right now. Everyone else has had it, though.

I agree, we don't favor state regulation of backyard poultry and find this to be over reaching. Interestingly, this was the first we heard of it. (I need to make a better effort to check in on here more often, sorry if it's been discussed here already) Not sure why it is recirculating...

    Turkey wing clipping?

Good, Hopefully it keeps them away from the road.

    Turkey wing clipping?

So the whole idea here is if you clip one wing the bird will be off balance when it attempts to fly/jump which will discourage it from doing so. I have had no such luck with lighter heritage breeds as they can jump great distances without needing to fly. As a matter of fact I retrieved our Red...

    Chicken and Turkeys

Turkeys definitely focus on things. We are raising two for the table, a Red Bourbon Heritage breed hen and a Broad-Breasted bronze tom. They free range on a quarter acre with ducks and chickens. The Bourbon constantly hones in on our silkie, corners her and pecks the top of her head. It was a...
