    Chicken poo

I feed them Dumor layer pellets. Going to go ahead and worm all 8 hens in my flock. What do you do for coccidiosis?

    Chicken poo

Help!! What in the kind of chicken poo is this ( if this is even what it is)?? I’ve checked all my flocks vents and I see no signs of this yellow stuff anywhere in their butts or feathers. I’m concerned and baffled.

    Sudden death of hen

She certainly showed no signs of distress. I take very good care of my girls and are around them several times a day. I need to except that it was something internal and nothing I did to attribute to her passing even though my heart is very saddened. Thank you.

    Sudden death of hen

Her vent area was pretty wet with fluid when I found her. I’m thinking an impacted egg? No signs of blood though.

    Sudden death of hen

With a saddened heart, I found one of my 9 month old Rhode Island Red hens deceased in a nesting box. First off, she showed no signs of sickness yesterday. All other hens are in good health. Our run and coop are 100% predator proof with an electric fence with an automatic coop door. I take very...

    Hawks

Exactly what my husband said with free ranging. A hawk will swoop down for prey even with humans near by. Guess I will not let them free range any longer. I can’t stand the thoughts of losing any. Their run is large and protected with plenty of room to move around. I did enjoy seeing them...

    Hawks

We’re not going to shoot any hawks.

    Hawks

Our run is covered and predator proof. The hawk spotted them while they were free ranging in the yard. And no, we’d never shoot a hawk.

    Hawks

We had our first encounter with a hawk while our chickens were free ranging, today. Luckily, I stepped outside just in time or we would be missing one or more of our girls. I must say it was quite unnerving. Has anyone tried using an owl decoy placed on top of the run? Or any other tips? Until...

    Switching to layer feed

They eat grower crumbles. Mine also free range and I give back their egg shells and provide ground oyster shells. Along with fruits and greens that we have left overs of. They don’t lack in that department.

Thank you, did not know this. I’m still learning.
