    Piperazine-52

How long did you wait until you ate eggs again?

    Piperazine-52

One of my hens got round worm so I just gave a dose of Piperazine-52. It does not say anything about not being able to consume the eggs. What do you recommend?

    Diatomaceous earth in a tire

I just put some diatomaceous earth in an old truck tire for our chickens. Our run is not covered. Will the D.E. be okay exposed to rain if I just want it as a dust bath for the girls? We used to have a spot by the house they used to be able to roll in but the coyotes swiped two so we can't let...

Roo or Pullet? Too early to tell? Dominique 4 weeks old (updated, see photos below)

Do you have another update. I am very curious. I have a Dominique named Nagini and she is 7 weeks old and is developing the wattle and rose comb

    Future roo or hen?

Nagini is a Dominique. It has a rose comb and it is starting to get the wattle. I read that they mature faster than others.

    Future roo or hen?

Thanks to all who have responded so far. I was thinking Nagini might be a roo too. I guess only time will tell

    Future roo or hen?

We just got new chicks a month ago. They are about 4 weeks old. Can you tell gender already? I am having a hard time even telling them apart, never mind the gender. We have 2 Cuckoo Marans, 2 Welsummers, 1 Dominique and 1 Speckled Sussex. #1 #2 #3 #4 #5 #6

    Dish Soap in Eggs

I have a yolk eater in my crew. Usually first thing in the morning before I get out there. I have read on the forum to put dishsoap in an empty egg. I only have green right now. Can they see color? How long do you have to do it before they change their behavior typically.

    Leaves in the run?

I could have kicked myself because I just took a truckload of leaves to the community compost. I am dealing with a muddy run and looked up info on byc. I came across this thread and had to try it. Thanks for the tip. Good thing I had more raking to do. The girls enjoyed it this afternoon.

    Our Buckeye attacked by dog

She is back into the group and no worse for wear. She still roosts on top of the bunny hutch at night and therefore needs to be taken to the coop every night. She is doing well. No eggs yeat and I think it probably won't happen until spring now.

My 26-week-old hens aren't laying yet. Their coop and run are in the shade, could that by why?

The chickens squat because that is what they do when there is a rooster there to fertilize. That shows that they are ready or near ready from what I have heard. The best way to figure out who is laying is to catch them in the act. You have to check periodically when you see one of them go in...

My 26-week-old hens aren't laying yet. Their coop and run are in the shade, could that by why?

Well I hope you liked Vancouver. We definitely do, however it snowed today. Unusual for it to happen this early. Snow has already melted from this morning, though. The hens didn't know what to think. They just wanted to stay in the coop but now they are out and about. Keep me in the know...
