Hey Northerners: What is the absolute coldest air temps your chickens have experienced happily!

I was wondering what cat foot was. Lol Ours are out now...my daughter shoveled an area for them and put down straw. They are huddled in their "bunker" (a 3-sided shelter).

Hey Northerners: What is the absolute coldest air temps your chickens have experienced happily!

It's been -24 the last 2 nights here in Montana. Our birds looked really miserable this morning. I really wonder if I should add a heat lamp until this cold snap is over. I've been worried about fire, but I guess if I make sure the heat lamp is very secure it will be all right? I wonder if...

Our first egg, cute kitty photo, and "chicken bunker" pics!

I have to share this cute pic of our first egg and our cute rescue kitty, Ponto. We are keeping chickens for the first time, and our first batch of chicks is finally getting big enough to lay eggs. The first egg is courtesy of our Leghorn, Titania. Ponto just had to sniff it when I was taking...

Help! Need advice on coop roof---Edit: Coop is almost finished--Chickens are installed! Now Chick

Btw, they do have grass now and other plants growing in their run. Mostly alfalfa, which they love. There is a lot more vegetation now that we've had our spring rains. Also, on the subject of the roof, we used plywood, but that's good to know about the osb! Thanks!

Help! Need advice on coop roof---Edit: Coop is almost finished--Chickens are installed! Now Chick

Thanks for the input, everyone! I didn't realize you all were posting, sorry... I did get a shade cloth remnant for shade. It helps some. My daughter also built a "chicken bunker" as we call it; it's a 3-sided shelter built out of scrap wood and it is very heavy. The chickens took shelter in...

Young hen is very lethargic, can't hold wings or head up

Thank you! She is doing better now. We have her inside in the air conditioning in a cool bathroom and she is a lot more normal. I think we'll keep her inside for a couple of days to be on the safe side. I think maybe she got overheated yesterday and stopped eating and maybe was weak from that...

Young hen is very lethargic, can't hold wings or head up

No ideas? :( I just checked storey's guide and it says that by the time a chicken is that sick it probably won't make it.

Young hen is very lethargic, can't hold wings or head up

I just let the chickens out of their coop this morning and one little Mille Fleur is extremely lethargic, and can barely walk, hold up her head or pick up her wings. I've never had a sick chicken before. Help! If there's anything I need to give her ill have to go buy it. I live a ways from the...
