My easteregger started with what looked like a blister on its toe but is growing.
I have been soaking in epsom salt and wrapping with neosporin.
She doesnt favor it nor has it slowed her down. Im going to call the vet unless I can get some good advice here. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks for the support and suggestions. The article was quite enlightening and reassuring.
With everything I've read it does seem like old age is taking its toll.
She still eats and preens herself so she still has some spunk left
Thanks and that makes sense. She shows no other symptoms.
It's not easy seeing her like this and it doesn't seem right to put her down. I'll keep an eye on her until she gets worse
Wyorp, thanks for the info.
She is almost 8 years old
There is no evidence of mucous or respiratory issues.
There was no injury that I know of.
I'll try to get some pics tomorrow.
She's looking pretty bad and I don't want her to suffer much longer
a month back one of my hens developed a crooked neck to the left.
Additionally her face on the left side is droopy.
She continues to eat and groom herself byt her walking in wobbly.
I'm considering putting her down but would like to know what this is.
I've considered wry neck but not all the...
I was reading the package and there are no warnings of toxicity.
I will be calling Scotts today for more information.
This fertilizer had no pesticides or anti-fungal treatments so I am hoping that the four weeks will suffice.
As a side note - the run is closed, the door was not latched and the...
Yesterday my flock of 10 RIR's broke out of their run and wandered over to an area I had just fertilized with Scott turf builder.
I never let them graze in this area.
By the time I realized they were out and got to them I saw that they were eating the fertilizer pellets.
My first worry was for...
I have a brood of 10 RIR and have consistently gotten 7-8 eggs a day since September. They are only a year old.
Now that spring has sprung I am now getting 4-5 a day. It has been raining a lot could that have anything to do with it.
I've got customers that I might not be able to supply. Any...
I've been feeding and watering them outside for the last week and they are doing fine.
I tried to tempt them inside with Gro-Cal mash which they love with no luck.
Feeding them outside isn't a big deal until we get a storm or worst come the winter. Hopefully they adapt.
The coop is clean, no...
I have a new flock of RIR (15 weeks old).
While in the temporary coop the food and water were inside and they ate and ate. Now that I have prepared the larger perm coop with water and food inside. Food in is a trough-like tray (actually a gutter screwed to the wall). It took a few days to...
So at least I'm not the only one.....
My guess is that they are molting or at least some of them.
Now I just gotta figure out when they'll start laying.
I have two questions:
I have 10 RR and they are about 15weeks old.
There are feathers everywhere in the coop and run. At first I thought there might be some bullying going on but after watching for a couple days that is not the case. Could they be moulting already?
Also, at what age will they...
