This chick was solid black, and sold to me as a Black Australorp, along with two others who are also turning red in front. I named this girl Robin, for obvious reasons.
This chick was sold as a Buff Orpington. She blended right in, with the exception of a slightly rosier color, hence the...
This is Rose. She was sold as a Buff Orpington chick. I named her Rose because she was just a bit redder than the other buff chicks. Her new feathers came in dark red, and she's not as big as the buffs either.
This isn't the same bird. The bird closer to the camera is Robin, named for obvious reasons. The little one, and the two I bought a week later, all sold to me as Black Australorps, have all developed red chests.
Gidget, (Gidget the Midget) the black chick I originally posted about, is now the...
I'm out of town, but she, and two chicks that were sold to me as Black Australorps have started to get red feathers. One looks JUST like a robin. The feathers are veined and edged in red. I have no idea what they are. I feel like I'm pregnant awaiting the reveal of the gender. I have been out of...
Nope. I got my chicks from a vat at a feed store. I'm suspecting that I have 2 silver laced Wyandottes, 2 Australorps and perhaps 2 sex link blacks. And one solid black tiny one, maybe Japanese bantam or other bantam. I have no idea!
I have two australorps. Solid black except for a little white on the wings.
The two chicks have light legs, two have dark. The rose comb ones have more white, but black legs... It's confusing.
I still don't know what the brown chick is. She's much darker than the buffs and has black on her...
I came home with 14 chickens. It was originally three breeds, but I can tell it's a mixed flock, which is great!
Four of the chicks are supposed to be Silver Laced Wyandottes. I was observing the chicks today as I am trying to tell them apart for naming purposes. Two of the SLW have white...
Oh well. I posted the pictures. I guess time will tell.
She is, oddly enough, the most aggressive chick. Passive aggressive. The other chicks were pecking at feed on a board, she keeps her head down, and eats under everyones feet, if they don't get out of her way, she "accidentally" pecks...
In the photo with two in my hand, she is the one protesting. I used this to compare: she is about 10 days old, the other chick, an Australorp, is three or four days.
In the "top view" you can see that she holds her wings out a bit, , and the one where I'm holding her, it shows best her wing...
But that tiny? She came from a batch that, by the time I got them home, was six or seven days old. I bought 2 two day old Black Australorps later, and she is barely their size. I was guessing a Bantam breed, but have still not found a solid black chick like her. I know time will tell, but...
