    It’s been a rough month

It’s been a heck of a month, I sadly lost three birds whom I was very attached to. It started when Cory, the bantam Rhode Island Red rooster in one of my previous threads, failed to improve from his ailment when a mass in his abdomen was discovered after he passed. I’m grateful that his last...

    Bantam rooster with GI issues

Yes, one day after rejoining the flock he started having constipation issues, straining but unable to actually go. We got him clean up and he’s since pooped multiple times. He’s not the only rooster in the flock. He was eating the same thing the rest of the flock eats when he was separated. If...

    Bantam rooster with GI issues

Soooo… he was doing really well so I decided he was finally ready to go back to the flock and let him out with them on Monday. The next day he started having issues again so back on the coconut oil and epsom soaks he goes. This is certainly weird and if it persists I might have the vet take a...

    Bantam rooster with GI issues

It looks a little better. We’re going to continue the soaking fit a little while longer and see how he looks then.

    Bantam rooster with GI issues

These were the best pictures of his eyes I could get without someone to help me. Right eye. Left eye. I think he’s improving a little. He’s not making as many weird noises while trying to poop and his comb color is looking quite a bit better.

I used valbazen. I could get ahold of the vet and see if a fecal float can be done.

    Favorite Chickens!!!!

So hard to choose! My favorite rooster is definitely Walter, a grandson of one of my favorites from the first batch of chicks we got. He’s such a cute fun little bird. My favorite hen is probably a tie between Indie, Walter’s mom, and Skylar the polish

    Bantam rooster with GI issues

I’ll give all those things a try. The last time all the chicken were dewormed was November I think. No antibiotics on hand.

    Bantam rooster with GI issues

He’s about 5 year old. I’ll try to get some better pictures of his eyes as soon as I can. I did get a picture of his poop as well as his vent area to show how irritated and sore it looks in case that helps. Despite all this he’s still a pretty cheerful guy, little bit lethargic but still waking...

    Bantam rooster with GI issues

These were the best pictures I could get of him since he wasn’t cooperating and trying to escape. His comb is quite a bit more red than it was previously. Appetite is still great, crop is emptying overnight, he’s drinking and talking back to me when I hang out with him. He really enjoyed being...

    The Chicklings

I figured I’d post about something that isn’t about an ill chicken for once and show off the newest editions to the flock. We incubated some duck eggs and only one hatched so we got the little duckling some friends: a magpie duck, two copper rock marans and a light brahma. They are the cutest...

    Bantam rooster with GI issues

I’ll try to get some pictures today. I’m pretty sure his crop is emptying overnight though I will check again. He doesn’t seem to have any discharge coming from his vent. How would you recommend getting the coconut oil into him? Would you just mix it with food or force feed it to him? We wormed...

    My Hen

I love my white crested black polish girl! She’s the noisiest little thing and will even leave her treats to come follow me around making all her adorable noises.

    Bantam rooster with GI issues

About 3 weeks ago, I noticed one of our bantam roosters was acting off. His comb isn’t as bright as it usually is and he isn’t 100% of his perky self. He also seems to have trouble pooping. He’ll stand very upright and make strange noises while straining to poop, he does manage to get the poop...

    Blood but no wound

Where is the blood on the hen? If it’s around the head or throat maybe she got in a fight with another chicken and got a small injury to her wattle or comb. Those bleed quite a bit.
