    Duck Favoring Foot

I got some advice from a friend. I am going to treat her foot issues--bumblefoot of course. My friend advised me to separate her from the others but keep her close. Like fence her off in the coop so she can still see the others. She said it was likely a sprain. She didn't tell me how to help the...

    Duck Favoring Foot

My duck is favoring her left foot. This must have happened within the last day since I did not notice if before. I cannot tell if her injury is in her leg or foot. But she puts very little weight on it when walking and uses her left wing to balance herself. I cannot take her to a vet--not really...

    Chick with eye problems

She's doing better, thanks! The white blob in her eye is gone. I think she may still have a little drainage, but she's a lot better. :)

My first chicks! And some... ducks? Have some questions!

Oh I understand now. I hadn't heard that before, so I'm not sure!

    Chicken with eye problems

Ok. Unfortunately, I have other hens occupying the 'infirmary' cages, so I don't have any way to separate her. So far I think they're leaving her alone.

    Heat Lamp Troubles

At 1 1/2 weeks old, the temperature should be 90-95 degrees F. So 86 would be a little too low. The right temperature is pretty important. Perhaps you can put them in a 'cooler' part of the house or just out of the sun.

My first chicks! And some... ducks? Have some questions!

So glad you're enjoying your quackers and squawkers! For #2: The best way to befriend them and make them docile is to hold and pet them often. Not for long, since they'd be out of the warm brooder, but once a day for a minute or two each. #1: The problem with housing ducks and chickens...

    Chicken with eye problems

I don't think she was pecked. Probably it's an infection. My sister told me that she did see drainage--"like she was crying." I just flushed her eye with some saline solution and then applied some triple antibiotic cream. I guess I'll just keep an eye on her and keep applying stuff. I don't have...

    Ducklings and Chickens

Definitely! My brother was super elated to be able to eat eggs again! So we can make so many recipes with duck eggs and he can eat them. It truly united our family again, since we had to make everything separate for him.

    Chicken with eye problems

I noticed today my hen having eye problems. Part of her eye is white and very watery/liquidy. Don't know if I actually saw drainage, but it did look bad. She kept it closed a lot and it seemed to hurt her when I tried to open it. She has been walking unsteadily and seems weak and tired. Advice...

    Ducklings and Chickens

I can't answer all your questions as I don't have experience with raising chickens and ducks together under a hen. But, I've heard that hatching ducks under a broody hen usually works well. She doesn't know that they are not chicks. I have 5 Khaki Campbell ducks currently and had three more a...

    My chicken is acting weird!

I can't say I'm very knowledgable about chicken diseases and such, but a few months ago one of my hens died. I am pretty sure it was an internal disease. But she basically lost her will to live. And at that point, nothing you can do will really help her. Not saying that's true in your case, just...
