Bought a hen, was told it lays.. and no eggs. Any ideas? *UPDATED*

I have found that it takes up to 2 weeks for a hen to feel comfortable in her new and start laying again....

Hi all! I am also in Manitoba! I'm south of Brandon. Just started out this spring. Have a mixed group. Also, just had one of my broodies hatch out 5 chicks...so excited! Don't know the breed yet...a friend pulled a bunch of fertilized eggs from the nests...could be anything really! We free...

Unexpected chicks from broody hen...when to move them??

Well I moved them to a corner. She did well and didn't freak out until just before I put her back. She has five chicks and 3 eggs still...She's been eating from my 5 year old daughter's hand and one chick was also allowed to eat from her hand! She was over the moon! She's been there 2 nights and...

Ugh how do I worm a flock of 25 eating/laying birds, and possibly ducks?

There is a picture on this site (found it on another thread...very helpful!) that shows the intestines, scroll down and find it...maybe compare? I don't know much else...sorry http://chat.allotment.org.uk/index.php?topic=17568.0

Should I be worried - 3 dead in 3 months?

We use pine shavings. I will double my efforts in cleanliness. We don't have the dead chicken anymore. I don't which one the explosion came from now as the 4 of them look so much alike. The 4 of them are kept together... Hoping perhaps it is just ironic...we were butchering them in the fall as...

Should I be worried - 3 dead in 3 months?

When do I start to worry something is going through my coop? We got these chickens in March. We have lost 3 chickens, one each month for the last 3 months(April, May, June). The first 2 were similar...they became lethargic, standing by feeder but not moving. I could pick them up and move them...

Well, we are just getting the coop wired so this has opened up our options considerably! We are re-insulating the inside this summer. I have seen many coops around here that use baseboard heater mounted about 2-3 up a free wall, so are thinking of trying that. Also, continue to have the heat...

Unexpected chicks from broody hen...when to move them??

We have 5 chicks...and still 4 eggs left...how long should I leave those I eggs? Anyway, I have built a next box and I will put it in a corner of the coop. Tonight after dark when they are all settled in I will get my husband to help me and we will move the family to the floor! She won't...

Unexpected chicks from broody hen...when to move them??

Thanks for the replies and ideas! We may have to do a ramp...or somehow get them to the ground and hope they stay there without being bugged by the other hens... Just checked and we 3 chicks now and 1 cracking!
