Well I don't know if that particular chicken is laying eggs or not. I have 10 (or maybe 9) hens and get anywhere from 3-7 eggs a day. I have a couple of older hens so didn't think never getting 10 eggs would be abnormal. And yes I've heard about a hen acting like a rooster when there is no...
Ok I have a 'hen', 'roo' who is about 18 months old and is just getting spurs. Is this possible. He/She kind of acts roosterish (protective of other hens) but no mounting or crowing etc. Do I have a late bloomer or a hen with spurs?
Any thoughts?
Is that sand? I love the idea and am going to be creating a new coop next year so this would be a great idea. And yeah once they are used to something it's hard to get them to do something 'new'. LOL!!
Hello - I feel your pain, I also get tired of feeding the wild birds my expensive organic chicken feed LOL.. I do find they waste less with pellets vs. crumbles but still there is waste. I have actually started putting less in their feeder, only a scoop at a time instead of filling it. I have...

Sounds like a great idea and I'd like to try it but don't know how I would keep the water from turning to ice in the winter.
I have asked around and so far no luck finding her some fertilized eggs. I might check the internet and see although not sure I want to go that far :-)
Thanks
Yep, that's what I was referring to by confinement. Used a wire dog crate up on saw horses with no bedding only food and water. I let her back in the coop to sleep at night but put her right back in the cage next am. I did this for 4 maybe 5 days before I gave up because as soon as I let her out...
I've read most of the posts on broodiness but haven't run across my exact situation.
About 2-3 weeks ago one of my hens (Buff Orpington) started fluffing out her feathers while walking around the yard, taking incessant dirt baths and being pecky with the other chickens (I only have 4 hens). My...
