I might try that. Just in the time that I posted this the chick is starting to dry off and moving around. It's eyes are open and I've been giving it water.
This little guy hatched a couple of days after it's bro/sis. And the hen isn't sitting on the nest anymore. This chick was halfway out and it's shell dried on him. It's still alive and we took it inside and put it under a heat lamp. We were able to get the shell damp enough to pull the rest off...
After reading this, I think it could have been the problem along with other factors. In one of the pictures, if you look close enough, the umbilical cord was exposed and the bottom was really puffy. I could tell after about 3 hours after hatching something wasn't right but I kept hoping for...
The bottom was swollen from the time it hatched. I was looking at it this morning and the legs do look a bit off and its head kinda curves a bit. The sling is a good idea but I have to work all day so no one is there to help it I do give it water but its not able to eat. I though about...
Its still hanging in there but I don't think it will survive It can't walk so it kind of just lays there. When it does move around it flails around before its on its side again. I feel bad but I don't think I can kill it.
Day 24 and I have had 4 to hatch! 3 have been moved under a heat lamp and the 1 born yesterday isn't (still in incubator) looking so well. It keeps laying on its side and doesn't walk around any and keeps shaking. I'm not sure what to do but just leave it in there until its completely dry.
I had one start pipping after I got out of the shower this morning, went to get ready when I came back another started!! I could even hear one chirping!! So far its 2 out of 9! I'm so excited, this is my third try so hopefully I'll have some babies when I get home from work!! It was so hard...
Good luck! I was unsuccessful with my first 2 hatches (it got too hot). So I'm giving it another go but I've been monitoring the temp everyday, so far I've only lost 1 out of 10. Mine are due to hatch Friday and I took the turner out last night (Monday).
Its about to be lock down for my eggs and I read I need to raise the humidity. How do I do that and keep the temperature at 99.5? I don't want to add water and leave and it get too hot!!
