Funny how that works!! I have wanted to get chickens for a few years. I grew up on a farm and wanted my son to have the experience of raising animals for food supply. We already had a garden which gains us squash, corn, canned tomatoes, and various other things to enjoy, but I wanted more...

I have thought about bees too. Although I'm not sure hubby would go for that. He would probably be appointed beekeeper which would not make him so happy.. I'm not inclined to put myself in a position to possibly be stung.

Thanks sarahdell. We have been buying eggs from a local farmer recently as well. Trading sounds like a good idea, but we have told our son if he helps care for the chickens and helps sell the eggs he can have some of the $$. Mmm.. Fresh berries & honey.

Pretty good size egg for the first one. It's on a saucer, not a full size plate. I hope yours start laying soon. Seems a long time to wait. Patience pays off. :)

I have a couple of Easter Eggers just 3 weeks old. The lighter colored one (on the left in most pics) is the one in question. Of course, I went and saved it from the feed store since I noticed it had pasty butt and didn't want it to die waiting for help. My luck it's a Roo... I'm holding out...
