Thankfully I keep my 4 flocks all separated and change boots between feeding ect. My main egg laying flock seems to have contracted something. I've deep cleaned my coop but should I scrape out their run area? They have 1/4 acre fenced in 12 ft high in our woods. I'm worried about the wild birds...
I'm ALWAYS nervous about egg decisions! 12 hatched of 13. This one is left. Everyone hatched yesterday and today. They are icelandic. Is this a quitter? I see no movement and it seems small inside. Thx!
I have and have had a LOT of chickens but this one was special. This picture was taken last night. He was eating, drinking and chatty but tired. He hid not feeling well too well. See the black part center comb?Kevin is/was the best, most loving and sweet rooster I've ever had the joy of loving...
I had to put in a container on its own, the other chicjs were attacking that sac once they fluffed up tonight. I pressed on it lightly and it shrank a tad. I've got olive oil on it.
Thank you, looks to be correct upon further examination. Phew such a relief. This one couldn't wait to get out of there, hatched earlier than everyone else and was covered in yolk. Very weak but I fed it yolk water and now it is fine. Probably the most eager and friendly hatchling I've ever...
1. Where did you get the birds?
From a supposed breeder. They were supposed to be young chicks when we picked them up but they were much older.
2. Are they from a feed store, hatchery, or breeder?
Breeder or egg hatchery really
3. If you bought them from a hatchery, which breeds did you...
Thank you so so much. It's always hard putting a bird down, even after 5 years of chicken keeping. :( Freckles was one of my favorite too, always jumping into my hands and sticking her head in the shoulder of my shirt to cuddle. She sure was loved for her short life.
I'm going to put her out if her misery tonight sadly. I'm watching my 2 flocks like a hawk. Feed looks and smells fine but I'll look into that more for sure.
