    Woo 1st Egg!!

It’s actually seems a little bit of a cold front came through! It doesn’t feel nearly as miserable or skin searing as it normally does 😃

    Woo 1st Egg!!

It’s insanely hot! Especially in the coop! It’s easily over 100° in there even with a fan but they don’t seem to mind 🤷🏽‍♀️ they’ve barely been panting this whole time, so I’m glad my flock have adjusted nicely to the outdoor oven that is a Texas summer 😜

    Woo 1st Egg!!

1st time chicken mom and we were surprised to get our 1st 2 eggs today!! The flock is around 19ish weeks and it’s hotter than the devil’s butt crack outside (N. Texas), so I just assumed they may be delayed but here we are! I was so worried they were gonna lay their 1st when we were on vacation...

    Fowlpox??

Well, when it rains it pours. Noticed these black spots on 2 of the cockerels combs and wattles and on one of my hens. They are almost 15ish weeks. Confirming it’s fowlpox and if there is any treatment protocol, keep reading to do betadine on the spots, and isolate or do nothing. We’ve got 27...

Sour crop? 1st time chicken mom! Help!

I picked her up to move her back into a kennel and she started to do this. Close her eyes and lay her head back. Then when I placed her in the kennel, the greenish watery liquid came pooling from her mouth. I messaged then immediately pulled her back up and she just kept vomiting up the liquid...

Sour crop? 1st time chicken mom! Help!

Her crop is definitely smaller than it was last night but she still has a small balloon like feeling lump. Her stool is loose and dark/black. I let her out with the others and she is just laying around and the others are starting to peck at her and the cockerel is trying to mount her (both she...

Sour crop? 1st time chicken mom! Help!

Tonight I noticed one of my hens (13 weeks) wasn’t acting herself. I went out to give them some watermelon and she was willing to come and be curious but never actually went for the watermelon. They’ve been free ranging and are free fed (Nutrena Starter/Grower). I grabbed her (which she also...

    Howdy! New Chicken Mom Here

Thank you for identifying my “Wyandottes” 🤪 I thought red sex links were just crosses with RIR’s so it makes sense why they would all look similar. Thank you for the info, I really do appreciate it! It was a very big surprise knowing I have even more breeds than I thought. I’m just praying for...

    Howdy! New Chicken Mom Here

So cool! The Red Sex Links were the darker red’s according to the feed store lol the numbered boys and girls were the labeled Wyandottes, the bottom left pic is me trying to get all of them together. I will need to tag the red and black sex links bc they are getting impossible to tell apart 🙈

    Howdy! New Chicken Mom Here

That is a surprise! She was one labeled a Wyandotte 🙈 pretty much all the ones that are colorful we’re labeled Wyandottes. I’ll try to get more pics of them 😂 Also, our RIR’s my aunt swears they are cinnamon queens not RIR’s lol

    Howdy! New Chicken Mom Here

Hey y’all! I’m a mom to 2 humans and a new mom to 28 chickens in Texas! It was 30 but we lost 2 sadly. I intended on starting with 15 chicks and my husband decided to add 15 more by the end of the week so his chicken math was all out of whack! 🤪 They are now almost 10 weeks and so far doing...
