Tonight I noticed one of my hens (13 weeks) wasn’t acting herself. I went out to give them some watermelon and she was willing to come and be curious but never actually went for the watermelon. They’ve been free ranging and are free fed (Nutrena Starter/Grower). I grabbed her (which she also never lets me willingly do lol) and she immediately had some watery greenish foul liquid coming out of her mouth. I then noticed her jiggly bulge in her crop and massaged and more of that liquid coming up, so I immediately turned her upside down so she wouldn’t aspirate. I continued to massage and she seemed to then perk up some, with her comb starting to redden up some too. I haven’t noticed a hard lump so I think it may just be sour crop but the bulge never did actually go away. The pictures attached is her after massaging for a good 10-15 minutes. She just wanted to lay down. I did read the article on here so I’ve separated her in the kennel in the coop to observe overnight and start monistat tomorrow.
Should I also do the coconut oil first if I’m not sure it’s impacted?
Also, it’s a horrible heat wave week this week in Texas (triple digits), should I bring her inside?
She’s our only barred rock girl now and a favorite so we’re hoping to get her through this. Is there anything we can do to prevent it from happening to the other girls or her again? Will this be a constant problem from now on for her?
Any and all info is appreciated!
