I want ducks for eating their eggs. Do I need a drake in order to entice the girls to lay eggs? I thought I read somewhere that the girls will be happier if there is a drake too.
Thanks!
build an outdoor enclosure for your cat. safer for kitty too...coyotes like to eat cats...chickens aren't the only snack in your yard that need protecting.
I absolutely love cats and I agree with trap neuter release programs, but I am of the belief that there should be mass euthanizations of feral populations....as much as it kills me to say it, the world is SO VERY, VERY overpopulated because of us humans failure to spay/neuter our pets. It's OUR...
I didn't see anything in there about not discharging within city limits...is it a big city?? By the way you describe it, its a crappy town...but the website makes it sound like its some grand ol' place and like animal control will solve all your problems.......sigh....
I wish they actually...
I am pretty sure you are good to shoot at them, and if the city cites you, appeal it. State law overrides city ordinances. You won't serve jail time on an ordinance ticket anyways. It's not a biggie, and you'll be on your way out of that town anyway.
carbon monoxide poisoning would be much more peaceful and painless but would pose a potential risk for you/your family unless you had a way of doing it where it wouldn't leak out, i.e. had a big tank.
Jesus, have some empathy. Imagine being drowned yourself. It is a lot less scary and much more quick to die to be shot and killed, than to suffer and take several minutes to be drowned.

We are looking to do a similar idea for our coop. I feel that it would be safer for our future chickens to protect against predators.
Downing is NOT humane, and is a horrible, cruel way to murder an animal. A bullet to head is the most humane. Trap them, and then take them out to the country and shoot them if that's how you want to dispose of them. How sick.
OP,
Did the neighbors reply for your request for restitution for the chickens? I'm very curious as to how they will respond.
I hope they will do the right thing. They are in the wrong here. You did what you needed to do to protect your flock.

I vote for a dog...feral cats reproduce so much that you will find yourself going to animal control with cats every day in your traps. Or, better yet, wait get rid of the chickens and wait until you do live in the country where you have freedom to eliminate predators as you see fit (with a .22)...
