Congrats! Yours looks like it's about the same color as my marans lays. They'll get bigger, that's for sure. My marans lays extra large to jumbo eggs every time.

My Marans lays the largest eggs in my flock. They're not super dark, but noticably darker than the others. I can't wait to see pictures of how dark yours turn out!

I thought I'd share my egg dying experience from this afternoon! I'm a cookie decorator and I have a ton of food coloring gels on hand. Here's the kind of cookies I make... I wanted to color some of my chickens eggs and decided to use the food coloring gel I use for my frosting instead...

Well, my hens have really gotten into the laying groove. 4 out of 4 eggs for 6 days running, now! Congrats on everyone's first eggs!

Total eggs for February = 68! (four hens) Not bad for new layers, plus only two were laying until mid month or so.
