Congrats! Yours looks like it's about the same color as my marans lays. They'll get bigger, that's for sure. My marans lays extra large to jumbo eggs every time.
My Marans lays the largest eggs in my flock. They're not super dark, but noticably darker than the others. I can't wait to see pictures of how dark yours turn out!
Hilarous thread! I've really enjoyed reading it.
My contributions..
A guy I work with did 4-H with chickens and his leaders apparently told him that there was no nutritional value without a rooster to fertilize the eggs.
Also, we dyed our brown eggs for Easter this year and most people...
Oh, thanks! I'm just glad to NOT be decorating cookies tonight. Those are for a wedding reception on Saturday. After 200 of those suckers, I'm in need of a neck massage!

I thought I'd share my egg dying experience from this afternoon! I'm a cookie decorator and I have a ton of food coloring gels on hand.
Here's the kind of cookies I make...
I wanted to color some of my chickens eggs and decided to use the food coloring gel I use for my frosting instead...
Sorry...that wasn't too clear, was it! No roosters in Newberg city limits. You do have to apply for a permit for your hens. And HOA rules usurp the city rules.
I called the police station (non-emergency number, of course...hehe) and asked them what the rules were. You can have up to 6 hens and no roosters. You have to apply for a permit (also available at the police station) and the animal control lady has to come inspect your coop. To cover my bases...
Ahh, gotcha. Makes sense that they would re-stock. I remember being really bummed last Sept. when we got our chicks because we wanted a few easter eggers and someone had the audacity to reserve ALL of them. The NERVE! lol :)
