Hey folks, I'm not new to chickens but am finally looking into trying to work on a specific breed, and not just our own backyard mixes. I've just started reading about genetics, but have some questions. I am trying to read back in the 50+ pages of this thread but maybe someone can answer this...

I have a Cochin chick that was purchased a week ago today. I am not sure how old she is; she is small/hand-sized, but has some adult feathers. Two days ago, I picked her up and heard some cracking breaths. I held her close to listen and she sneezed. A very small amount of clear, watery liquid...

Don't sand fleas only live at the beach? Of course my only experiences with sand have been sand boxes, but never got sand fleas, thankfully.

We're still building our coop, but have a plywood floor (so far) that we are planning on covering with vinyl for easier cleanup, and since the plywood isn't treated or sealed. I'd think if your 2x4s are treated, and you put some sort of litter over it (like wood shavings), it wouldn't be a...

Beautiful dogs! I know my two will definitely be interested when we get our first chickens. I have a mutt who is actually very gentle with small critters, as long as they don't ask to be chased ... We have a new dog though, and while she is older, we have no idea whether she will want to nibble...

Pretty birds! A nice little setup you have, too. I had a Rhode Island Red once who thought she wore the pants ... she crowed all the time but laid loads of eggs as well!
