I would advise not to just cut or take things off on a chicken. This doesn't look like a lash egg. It looks like a tumor. Not sure what her insides now look like but the prognosis is grim.

Could be anything.. if you cant see anything predatory.. it was within her. Could have been sepsis..infection can kill a bird very fast

Cull it. Quickly and painless

If that where the case.. no birds nests or any nests in the wild would be gone thru.. since most birds and other animals gather hairs for nesting material.. its bunk..

I love your setup choocks. .I have 2 giant dog crates I use to rear my chicks and a outside chicken tractor once they graduate into sunlight without a heatlamp. I think I like your set up better tho.. easier to clean and for the chicks a great place to learn...

We have seramas and serama crossed with banties.. a small silkie that is the size of a serama .. and have a small silkie mix that looks like maybe a half frizzle.. not sure as they just tiny yet.. and I have 2 more hatching that are silkie/serama x

That is really sad to hear. Some people do not understand why we hate and get rid of these predators to protect our flock. Such a waste...so sad. I am sorry.:(

And they are not hard to clean.. u use a little bleach water.. swirl it around and rinse is out good.. its not any harder than cleaning a bucket.. the egg turner can easily be dunked in hot soapy or bleach water to clean if you are a clean freak.I wiped mine out.. done.. never any fungus or...

I have one that I got from a yardsale I think.. its a styrofoam one with blower and heater and its digital.. its a Little Giant.. its clear instructions and easy set up is my fave so far... and it has the turner in it.I love it..It stays on temp and you can regulate it by removing little plugs...

sounds like she poked herself somehow in the chest while dustbathing maybe? maybe got startled and took off running into something..Or someone shot her..BUT... even a .22 usually should go thru and does some inside damage. Either way.. sorry you lost her:(
