Pros: pretty eggs, beautiful and varied feather color, cute muffs
Cons: Sometimes the muffs need to be trimmed
These are the best chickens in my book. They are cold hardy and lay pretty blue, green, or pink eggs. Their muffs and beards are adorable and I love their many colors. Their greyish green eggs are very cool too. They are also not too flighty and can go broody which is a plus in my coop.

Pros: Pretty eggs, beautiful feathers, and good layers of large eggs
I got my full grown Welsummer hens back in August 2012. They were plucked clean in lots of places from living in overcrowded conditions and being overbred. After getting them happy and healthy they started laying beautiful varied eggs. I am very very happy with them and will definitely get more.

Silkie

Pros: broody, unique physical characteristics, funny personality
Cons: anti-social, can't fly, poor egg production
I got my cockerel when he was 1 day old. He is now 4 months old. I love watching him walk around with his EE and barnyard bantam friends that he was brooded with. I will be getting him a Silkie girlfriend so he won't be lonely when his other friends fly up to somewhere he can't get to. I'd have a whole flock of Silkies if I weren't wanting lots of eggs.
