I tired so hard to get chicks from the nice farm store, but they had issues getting any chicks. So I settled for wilco again, but never really know what I'm going to end up with. Glad it's not a roo at least.
One of my chickens likes to stick her head through the fencing, rest her chin, and sleep against the fencing, lol. At first it freaked me out-was she stuck? Was she dead? Nope, just fine, she just likes to sleep that way. She does it all the time.
3+ week old chick. Wish I had gotten two of them to tell easier. Getting big feet and beak but maybe normal for breed? Has black feathers with brown tips, used to be only brown. The dark feathers are coming in on the neck and pics I've seen the roos have light feathers on head and neck? Going...
Her crop emptied today! I don't feel anything in there now, so maybe coconut oil and water did the trick! I did get chick grit to give them as well. Thanks everyone!
Her crop is not empty overnight. I tried giving her a bit more coconut oil. She has water with acv, which they've had so hopefully that will help. Otherwise she is still acting normal and she is still pooping. Not sure if I can find my chick grit or sand before heading to work. I would say this...
I'm thinking my week old chick may have impacted crop. It is very full and large and she has pretty much no mass around her keel. I've had them for 4 days, on medicated starter. There is nothing hard I can feel in the crop. Otherwise she is acting normal. She still wants to eat more, so I have...
Hello,
We will be building a new coop soon and I'd like to use the deep litter method. I'm wondering if there are certain aspects of the coop that would work better for this?
We've discussed concrete vs dirt floor? As well as having metal siding near the bottom to avoid wood rot? What would...
We are moving and supposedly the new place has foxes that have killed chickens before. I haven't dealt with foxes before, only possums and raccoons which have never attacked my chickens so far.
I will be building a new coop, but I was going to do some kind of temporary thing before it's...
An update. She is doing much better and back to being plump after feeding fermented feed and fresh pellets everyday. I think sour crop was a likely culprit. Fermented feed is great and I'm so glad she is back to normal!

These are all great suggestions, thanks! We did try some live traps for a bit, but there are too many mice. Their feed bags are ok in a metal trash can, but it's the feeder the mice get into and leave droppings, etc. I've been wanting to try fermented feed, this sounds like a good time to do it...
