It's strange to me that rabbits can be kept in wire cages, birds can be kept in wire cages but animal welfare would have a problem with guinea pigs in cages. Either way, I agree with the science that wire cages are not the way to go with such small animals like guineas. I had a few ideas based...
That chinchilla one looks like a pretty guinea. I've only ever really seen the calico looking ones so it's nice to see they can vary so much with their colors.
So another question for those who are bringing their pigs inside for winter months. What's your cage setup? I'm not wanting to clean cages a lot which is why I went with rabbits to begin with so if you're bringing them in are you allowing their droppings to fall into a tray like most kennels and...
I'm sure this has been asked before but I don't have time to scroll through all messages right now but how often do you breed your rabbits? I'm on the guinea pig board here and apparently it's safe to breed them constantly and I was wondering if rabbits were similar. I know that a lot of people...
Was wondering about the health of the pigs being bred immediately afterwards. I feel everything needs a break after giving birth but it started to sound like a good idea till you mentioned calcium deficiencies. Maybe this could be countered with a higher calcium diet for the sows before and...
As someone who's been watching this thread pretty regularly I was curious about how often do guinea pigs breed? With a space of rest in between breedings of course.
I don't know much about guinea pigs but after reading all of this thread and links provided recently i was thinking maybe he had ringworm but glad he doesn't! Great rescue! Once I get some quail I'm still debating if I should give guinea pigs a shot or not. I don't know if I'll have any luck...
Thanks for more information from a professional! But would you be able to cite the article on cuy weighing 6 lbs? I think you're thinking of something else. Cuy is guinea pig. Specific breeds are chosen for meat production but I don't think they are anywhere close to six pounds. I've seen...
So i have a few questions myself, how often do you breed a year? How old/big are they when you process them? What do you do for them in winter as you're in Michigan? I believe you said? I'll have to double check to make sure I got my facts straight but if so I imagine winters are pretty cold so...
So i have what may be an odd question, but since I plan on letting my rabbits roam around in the yard to eat from time to time, should I worry about fleas?
I love the idea of colony raising. But I was told by other bunny owners that it's not safe. Males are aggressive, females will kill other litters as will the males. Breeding could get rapidly out of control. Just a few of the things I've been told that come to mind. Still love the idea.
I had this same idea a while back so I could feed my dogs. Seemed like too much work removing the fur for me to bother with personally. Also not cheap. Petco and petsmart only seem to have guineas for like $30+/- when I've checked. Maybe it's seasonal? But I'm very interested in how this turns...
I could have sworn I did a search a couple weeks back. Maybe I didn't check the farm and garden section or maybe it was more than two weeks ago and times just flying by. Either way, thank you for going through and searching! Truly appreciate that. Looks like Ima be getting some bunnies this...
Hey y'all! I see no ones really posted in here for a while but thought I'd give it a shot; does anyone here have any rabbits for sale? I live in Oklahoma and the closer the better but I am willing to pick them up. Prefer in state but we'll see how far away you are. I've checked some local...
