My little giant incubator isn't raising the humidity as it should be. I've got the fan kit (so its not air flow/circulation).
I put a sponge in a container of warm water in.. And nothing!!
Ive tried balling up paper towels, etc..
Its not getting over 46% humidity.
The humidity has been at 37%...
Today our power went out for over 4 hrs, the temps in the incubator dropped to 70, I never opened the incubator.. Since then the power has came back on and the temps are normal once again.. But will they survive?
A few days ago I started my post about the recent raccoon attack on my small backyard flock; you can see all the details in the link below https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/861669/raccoon-attack-last-night
Here's my question: Since the Rooster was killed will it be a bad idea to introduce...
Around midnight last night I heard the most awful squawk from the coop outback; when I went out to investigate I found the front door wide open. My 4 chickens were no where to be found, and I seen a big coon in the back of my coop eating away at the eggs. So I locked him in there as I was going...
...eating just as much and drinking water normally.
When she wipes her face alongside her wing after we put the drops in I noticed the puss/goo sticks to her wing where her eye was wiped against it.
** Has anyone had this happen ?
What was the outcome and if it got better, how long did it take?
I have 2 Silkies in my small backyard flock, they're about 18-19 wks old.
I know for sure that one of the 2 is a ROOSTER, it crows.
The other silkie doesn't crow, and it has never showed signs like other roosters, chasing hens.. and trying to mount them..etc etc..
Anyway, the Silkie rooster...
I need help here, I recently bought 2 pullets to add into our small backyard flock of chickens.
One was obviously sick because I heard one sneezing here and there, and now my ROOSTER has been having trouble breathing and has been picked on from his flock.. He was at the top of the pecking...
...for me to just leave them well enough alone and let chickens be chickens, I'm sure they're just getting rough housed because they're newcomers.
*** But my wife is worried that the Buff Cochin roo will eventually kill one or both of them.. ??
Is this possible, they're within 2 weeks of the...
My little Buff Cochin Roo has started to act aggressive towards me, he is nipping my hands and arms when I let him.
The flock is only 13-14 weeks old, consisting of 4 birds, 2 of which are Roosters. The Cochin, and a Lavender silkie (he's a sweetheart) and the polar opposite of the buff...
We are new to owning / raising backyard chickens, I just wanted to hear from anyone in our area who has a small backyard flock of their own.
I have only 4 Chickens currently and they're 10 weeks old and we're getting ready to move them from the garage to their permanent home in our backyard...
I am interested in installing an Automatic Coop Door on my newly built Coop and I've tried to make my own auto door by using an electric CAN OPENER motor.. I didn't take into consideration that the motor doesn't have a reverse!
So, I need some help trying to figure out what other MOTOR options I...
I'm looking to buy up to 4 Pullets that are from 8 to 10 weeks of age, they'll be added to my small flock of mixed breeds. I've currently got a Jersey Giant hen, Buff Cochin Roo and 2 Silkies (roo and hen) I'm looking to get rid of the Silkies since they're not large egg layers, and i'm going to...
Here's a few pics of the 4 chicks we hatched from a Homemade Incubator 4 weeks ago.
Our 2 Silkie Girls..
Here's my little Jersey Giant, she's a sweetheart.
And Pip, he's a Buff Cochin.. I think it's a Rooster (his comb is quite a bit larger than the other 3 chicks)
Hey gang,
I'm in the final stages of my new coop build, and I was thinking of installing a window or 2 in the sides of the structure.
The prices for normal sized home windows is ridiculous at Lowes and Home Depot, so I was thinking of installing Playhouse or Shed windows..
But I'm having...
I recently hatched out 4 chicks from a homemade incubator.
We have 1 Jersey Giant chick, 1 Buff Cochin, 2 Blue Silkie chicks.
The Jersey Giant is very tame, she's not at all scared of us where as the other 3 chicks are somewhat timid when
we handle them.
Today I put my hand in the Brooder...
I've got 4 chicks that I recently hatched from my 1st Homemade Incubator. They're 8 days old, growing so fast and I've got them together in the brooder.
I would like to be able to pick up and hold my chickens without having to run them down in the future.
My question is, should I play with...
I recently started building a small backyard coop, our chicks won't be old enough to move into a coop for a few months but I wanted to get the design correct for them in plenty of time.
My coop is a work in progress, I started with 1 wooden pallet that I got at the local Lowe's and then I...
Can anyone tell me how to create the Yogurt mix that everyone says the chicks love to eat..
I tried 2 times already to give them Yogurt mixed with some of their Chick Starter and they wouldn't even peck at it.
Either i'm not adding enough of something or missing an ingredient, I need to know...
