I read your comment on planting bushes. What kind would you suggest? Can you post the web sites you mentioned?
Yesterday, a hawk (no idea which kind) killed one of my Rhode Island Red hens. My chickens have been outside for over 1 1/2 years (this is the first year without a rooster, maybe we...
I have 5 Pekin male, 1 Pekin female, 1 male mixed breed (blue Swedish/call?) and 10 Khaki Campbell females. (one of my Pekin ducks, I'm still not sure if they are male or female. The tail is not quite curled and it's way to hard to hear their voices with all of them together. But I have found 12...
So glad I found this old post. I heard a weird noise out back and looked out the window to see all of the chickens in the protected area of the coop and the ducks just swimming away without a care in the world. Since the chickens looked so alarmed I raced out the door and headed towards the pen...
Your response was very helpful. I'm not sure if she is laying eggs or not, we have 16 other hens. I might try to get out there and visit more often and see if she is in one of our boxes. If that fails I guess I can separate her for a bit and see.
**Silly question?
I might need to search through the forum some more, I am new to ducks and have a question that might go along with this thread. We have 6 Pekin ducks and I think some are starting to look like males. We also have a batch of Khaki Campbell ducklings-all female (in a separate...
Here's an updated picture of "Timmy" or perhaps "Tia", the jury is still out. We've been wondering if he should be bigger by now (he's 12 weeks). Would you still consider him a Blue Swedish or perhaps a call duck? TYIA
I have my ducks mixed in, as I've mentioned earlier. Now I'm looking at 2 of my Pekin ducks old enough to be started on a laying feed? (I think only one of the two is female, if that makes a difference.)
Is it okay to keep them on the grower/finisher (so they are on the same feed as the younger...
Hi!
I was looking through old posts to make sure using Neosporin on my hens would be okay and the eggs would still be edible.
I plan on using it on my hen's back (we had a Rooster that favored her a few months ago and the feathers have not grown back). Her back is pretty bare and now I have...
I haven't noticed anything like this on any of the other 15 hens. I will look up Giardia. I'm not sure if the skin is so inflamed from the sun or from her recently picking. I notice that in the evenings its not nearly as red. Do you think the hen saddle would take care of it? I guess it...
Please help! We have 10 new ducklings (about 2 1/2 weeks old) and I just noticed some of them have sores on the bottom of their feet. From what I've read it looks like it could be bumble foot. How can we help/treat them? I've attached photos for verification.
Any advice, suggestions and tips...
