All is well. With a little encouragement from ‘sourland’ I tried again. ‘Dexter’ peeped like mad while looking for me for about 15 minutes, but the parent geese kept encouraging him and he/she eventually ended up under Momma’s wing with the other goslings after they all ate and drank. 😮🥰🙏🙏🙏

This is encouraging. I’m concerned about how to keep him warm. I think I could rig up a heat lamp. Otherwise maybe we’ll just try supervised ‘playdates’ off and on during the day and see how things go. I’m mostly worried about him figuring out how to crawl under the momma goose for warmth.

This roo is almost two years old. He’s a part Sultan / frizzle bantam mix. He looked like he would be a splash as a chick - white with a few black spots. And then, at about four months he started to look like he fell in a very muddy puddle - and he still looks that way today. 😬😆

I think I’ve ended up with a sizzle hen with a double dose of the frizzle gene. I purchased her as a young hen and she looked fine, but now she looks like she’s going through a molt and has a lot of bare skin. I got the sense her breeder was careful to avoid double dosing, but seeing naked spots...

BYW - I have a ten year old porcelain d’uccle hen (from a feed store). ‘Liitle Missy’ is the sweetest thing ever. She follows me around the garden talking to me all the time (but she doesn’t like for me to pick her up 🤷🏻‍♀️😊).

Geez, you guys and your ‘Mille Fleur’ d’uccle’s’ 😆. Now I’m wishing my porcelain d’uccle hen wasn’t ten years old. 🙄. But I’m kinda of glad to have him - he seems really sweet.

🤞🤞 The hens are far away (half an acre). Which is why I was putting some faith in their being less aggressive.

This is such a dilemma for me, because they seem surprisingly contented with each other. My gut is that if at some point they are all on the roost together tonight before bed, I leave them that way. They are pretty close to the house and I’m a light sleeper, so if someone is getting picked on in...

That was my gut feeling. I’ll put him in a big dog crate tonight and work on constructing new housing tomorrow and hopefully find him suitable hen companions. (I do have housing in the works). I did find it quite interesting tho’, how comfortably he seemed to settle in with the three big roosters.
