Oh you guys are so bad!!
Building a secret run in the shrubs....
I am in the county....lucky. My 2 boys crow pretty much all dang day.
There is ONE more thing to consider though.....some hens can be real loud when announcing the arrival of an egg.....the others tend to join in.
I have soooo...
Yes this rain is awful the last couple days.
I slide all over in the mud going to the coop.
I threw down a few pounds of wood shavings in their pen today to try to keep them out of the wet mud. It helps.
They are too dumb to go inside when it rains.
I just went out and closed them inside the...
They really are small and cute eggs....I hard boiled a few to add to my dinner salads too. I made scrambled eggs for dinner last night. I had to scramble 6 of them to equal 3 eggs. They were a very rich yellow after cooking. Not pale like regular eggs.
I had another egg today, but my dog found...
Still hanging with the chooks, spoiling them rotten.
I'm getting eggs now!
About 1-3 each day from 6 hens.
Isn't the wrong time of the year for them to lay?
Silkie eggs are good!!
They have a richer flavor yolk. Must be considered organic ?
They are small, it takes 2 of them to equal a store...
Dogs and chickens=bad mix.
it's a game to the dog.....it's all about the chase and kill.
Not a bad dog.....just a fun game.
My chickens are kept locked in their run, but the other day 2 of them popped out of the gate as I was going in. I flipped out because all my dogs were standing there...

Anyone ever have this problem?
Also, is it safe to let chickens be out in the rain? Sometimes they...
I have heard that silkies crow pretty pitifully and not very loud like a regular sized chicken. My neighbors shouldn't have a problem, as they already hear my dogs bark now and then. I have pretty decent neighbors and am lucky. We pretty much put up with each others pets and thier noises. I have...
I've heard different times for the silkie roos to start crowing, but yours are getting old enough to start making feeble attempts I think. Mine are still pretty much babies.....or brats.
I've heard a few odd noises on the baby monitor that may have been attempts to crow, but not sure. One...
For Teenytinyfarm---
The blue cheeks on your rooster are actually his earlobes. It's a neat feature of silkies isn't it?
Is he crowing yet? Mine aren't
Not judging here.....but do you guys actually get together and trade chickens?
How can you part with them?
Mine are just as much babies to me as my cats and dogs. Maybe I'm over the edge....
I have found since I got chickens as pets, that it is hard for me to even EAT chicken anymore. As much...
I also ordered my silkies from my petchicken.com, and I adore them.
I do believe, however, that despite ordering only a fwe roosters, about half my flock are boys.
i love them all, and as long as they get along I don't plan on getting rid of any. I was happy with the service I got from the...
